Topic: X-Motor Grinding - Please Help

Hi I am having trouble with my X-axis motor on the SD2.

I can control it normally using manual control, as well as disabling it when I physically push the X-axis limit switch on the RHS of the SD2 with my finger. However when I hit the Home button in Repetier, the print-head moves to the far right and then even though it has hit the limit switch, the X-motor continues to turn, causing a grinding sound to occur. The drive-belt seems fine and the limit switch is definitely working. The printer dimension settings in Repetier are also correct. Its doing my head in and I am not quite sure what to try next?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have uploaded a video of the issue...

Re: X-Motor Grinding - Please Help

sure it's a problem with your limit switch... are your sure that the head touch the switch (and "click" it)?

if you push the switch by hand and let your finger on it, and then try to move the head with the cursor.. in normal condition, the head will refuse to move

if you can move it, the system didn't take your switch into account (firmware problem / inverted switch config/ inverted switch soldering ) or the switch is dead ..

Be extra sure that the print head is actually clicking the limit switch.  I recall seeing a video of a different printer (replicator iirc) with pretty much the exact problem you describe.

Sometimes the bolt with the spring can angle up too far and hit the frame before it gets to the limit switch.

Re: X-Motor Grinding - Please Help

Hi guys thanks for your help. DynamechGT you were right, the limit switch is working but it was not being pressed in far enough by the print head. So the back part of the print-head assembly was hitting the bushing before the limit switch engaged. I have made a temporary fix with a piece of cardboard to push to limit switch in for sure! Happy Printing!
