Topic: How do I get this Lead screw out of the stepper?

I got my new Z lead screw & cannot get the old one out. I have the guide rods free, the motor unmounted, but cannot get the lead screw off of the motor shaft. One, how do you stop the shaft from spinning? Two, is it thread locked?

slip a small pipe around the rod down to the stepper face then thread a nut onto the threaded rod down to the pipe and tighten, it will force the shaft out of the rod.

Thanks, so I need to re-glue the rod on to the shaft huh? Peachy.

Re: How do I get this Lead screw out of the stepper?

depends on how tight the new rod fits, you may just need to tap it on and it will be good as there isn't a lot of force trying to pull the rod off when printing. smile

If you want a little loctite won't hurt just make sure it doesn't flow down into the stepper wink

Re: How do I get this Lead screw out of the stepper?

I got it installed, thanks for the help. I used my straight edge on the new one & the one I pulled, both appeared straight, hopefully the old one was out beyond my ability to measure & this fixes it. We'll see. Will keep y'all posted.

Edit: I knocked the new one on, as advised, was a tight fit, but my 3 pound hammer with the motor in a vise did the job, took a few good whacks though, had to tighten down the vise a few times more than usual, because the motor kept twisting as I was banging on the lead screw. wink

Okay, so I am obviously trolling you guys above.
Kudos, nobody took the bait. tongue

I used my soft 2 lb dead blow hammer and knocked the new lead screw on while the motor was on my flat counter top. Now, although there is banding, it is at a minimal. I have the spring loaded backlash fix in place, and to take care of the last bit of banding should I use the firmware fix? Here is a pic of the companion cube I printed last night:

Wish I had a good fine detail camera.

Edit: That is .3 mm

Glad to see you are making progress!
