Topic: Recomended ABS
Hi everyone,
Mabee a stupid question, but why is ABS recommended vs. PLA?
I would like to use mainly PLA in my soon to order Solidoodle 2 expert...
Thanks for your responses :° )

For me the main advantage is being able to use acetone to smooth the part. Search for this if you haven't seen it before.
Thanks Lawsy, Yes I've seen the posts about that... I'm going to keep to PLA for indoor "appartment" printing, to keep the fumes healthy, hopefully at high res., like 0.1 or 0.15 layers.
I asked the same question in IRC and the Solidoodle tech said it was mostly that it's because that's what the Solidoodle staff are most familiar with.
I have a spool of PLA to give a try with, though I don't think it's likely to offer a different result with my stair-step problem.
Hunter, Being a machinist cnc in another life, looks like belt skipping to me! Measure one tooth, and one space on the Y belt, I bet its the same space on your step. Belt may be too tight, or too loose!
Oh, and thanks for your reply to my question... :0)

The key differences for me are:
ABS prints have a little flexibility, PLA is very stiff
PLA shrinks less than ABS, less warping during prints
ABS can handle higher temperatures before it softens
and some PLA smells like waffles while printing ![]()
Thanks, I like Waffles ![]()
Waffles? That's terrific.
I think scratch and sniff 3D modeling is the way of the future. lol.
