Topic: x axes motor buzzing loudly and skipping and changing directions?

Hello everyone.  Was doing a long print when my x stepper motor started making a loud buzzing noise, and then started printing in the wrong place.  Is my stepper motor gone.  No binding without motors on, very smooth.  Stopped and started a new small print, and its still making the noise and skipping all over the table.  Whats up?  Anyone!

Check each function(up,down, left, right) of each motor in the manual control panel of RH or pronterface just to get more details of what is really happening

I had same situation.

1: Unplug all power including USB then sway x and y plugs in stepper drivers in the back. Now plug back in and go into RH and try to move the X. Problem still there? Is problem now in Y?

Then the stepper driver is probably bad or overheated. Let it cool down, check the voltage and repeat. If still bad or you see lots of bad steps and shifting in your prints probably a bad stepper board.

I am assuming your belt tension is ok. Usually in the X it is a non issue.

Thanks for your reply.  I removed the x belt and powered up the x motor.  It skips while no belt attached.  It must be bad.  Anyone know how to remove the motor?  Only see two screws, and upon removal, motor will not budge. Or am I incorrect in my assumption?  This thing was printing all over the platform, skipping.  I hope its not the board, but am without the ability to check voltages, just a guy who bought a printer.  I did let it cool off, turned off, came back later and still have same problem.  Connections seem ok.

The x motor has a screw in each corner (4) you will have to remove the rod out of the way to get to the outermost two with a ball driver.

I removed the belt, and held the spindle on motor while running, its slipping inside the motor.  Set screw tight.  I ordered another x-motor from Solidoodle, and they shipped yesterday. Hooray
