Topic: Bad Hobbed gear
My printer has been down for a while. I replaced the heater, nozzle, and tension arm for the filament and still couldn't get the filament to feed right. It would extrude down to the end of the nozzle and some filament would come out, but not like it should. After talking to Solidoodle support, they indicated I needed to replace the entire hot end because they believed I screwed something up when I disassembled mine. (They thought the peek was not screwed in all the way) I told them I thought the filament gear was bad. They had me send them a picture and said that it looked okay. I ordered a new hot end and while waiting the customary 2 weeks for them to ship it, I found a drive gear on the trinity labs web site. I received the drive gear today and now everything is working as it should. The root cause you ask? When I cleaned out my hot end with an allen wrench, the wrench smoothed some of the drive gear teeth. It was no longer griping the filament as it should. My fault, but I am glad I solved it.
