Topic: solidoodle 2 leaking filament between peek insulator and the barrel

The leak has begun to impede print quality with globs of plastic being created and having to remove them  every print before it would print fine but now the flow rate is messed up and the gears are stripping the abs creating plastic dust.

Tighten that bad boy up. If that doesn't help, time for new PEEK!

Re: solidoodle 2 leaking filament between peek insulator and the barrel

thank you to tighten it i just need a 5/16ths wrench correct.

Not too tight. Finger tight when hot. use a oven mitten.

BTW I Melted the threads on my peek and fixed them with a HelCoil kit from O'Riley autopart

Re: solidoodle 2 leaking filament between peek insulator and the barrel

while attempting to tighten it with a wrench to hold the heat core and oven mitt i shorted the heating core so now it is always on. oh well time to buy new hot end or solder new nichrome wires.

Re: solidoodle 2 leaking filament between peek insulator and the barrel

You can't solder them they will melt. you have to crimp them. easiest place to find a crimp is auto parts store. Get a insulated one and remove the insulation crimp it then cover it with Kapton tape

Always on is a Sanguinololu/MOSFET failure, not hotend.

Sorry, thought it'd be obvious not to work on it while plugged in.

Re: solidoodle 2 leaking filament between peek insulator and the barrel

I thought I had to get it up to temp though to tighten it. Also does this mean I have to buy a new board.

You do have to get it up to temp. I get it up to temp, unplug it, and start tightening.

Not sure if you'll need a new board. If you do, get it from eBay, not SD - they overcharge, and you only need the Sanguinlolou, your pololu stepper drivers are probably fine.
