Topic: Extruder ruptured? Anyone know how to prevent?

The extruder on my solidoodle 2 decided to not work, and clogged, but the clog happened at the top of the valve directly below the black wrapper. The clog was so that the extruder stopped all functioning. Then the extruder lost the wrapper, which caused the green wire on the heater to break as well, completely ruining the extruder. Very frustrating, because the only way to remove the extruder according to the video on replacing it is to heat it up which became impossible due to the wire breaking. This meant I had to remove the extruder by force, cracking the acrylic, so now I have to get a whole new extruder assembly. Does anyone know what could have caused the problem? Any suggestions for making sure that this doesn't happen again?

Don't buy another acrylic set. They break too easily. Print Lawsy's MK4 design. I can print it for you and send it to you if you want.

Do you have a picture? I bet you can fix the hotend.

I believe what he's describing is what just happened to my new hot end (minus the wire break).  I think what happened was that the black peek tube wasn't screwed down far enough on the brass tube.  The space allowed the fillament to flow backward easier than forward through the tip.

that sounds about right. I had a huge blob of burnt filament up at the top. I tried fixing the hot end wires, but the wire was stripped off from the connector for the heating element. I could try and resolder it, but there is barely any space left on the wire to solder it on. I picked up a whole new extruder assembly, but I don't know how to prevent at least the initial part from happening again.
