Open filament firmware on daVinci 1.1 Plus?

Has anyone updated their daVinci 1.0 or 1.1 with the Open Filament Project firmware?
I was able to successfully updated the firmware but maybe I expected it to work like the Mini printer.

The printer doesn't seem to check the material of the model anymore and
it doesn't seem to check the remaining filament length anymore.
It does just print the model with the cartridge installed.

But I wasn't able to print without a cartridge though.
I can't seem to load filament without installing a cartridge and I can't take it out before printing.
Maybe my expectations were a bit too high....

I only have a iMac at work and created the model with the XYZWare for MacOS.
I created a model with XYZWare and used an USB stick to print it.

Was anyone able to print without a cartridge when using the Pro-e program on Windows?
Or do I maybe need to connect the printer to USB maybe?
