Topic: My new custom glass bed mount...

I just finished up my custom glass bed mount.

Quick release spring-loaded clips that allow for quick and easy glass changes with no chance of clamp collision.  Dead flat too. smile

Using a machine shop is cheating!  haha

can we see a video of these clips in action? are you interesting in selling these?

That is super tidy.

Looks like you machine a new bed and it's quite thick. How has this affected heat up time?

It is quite tidy. I really like it!

But, I want to ask, you losing build area there? That's my one concern with the clip methods - and I realize you can make the metal piece larger (as you may have) but then you have more weight for little reason.

Unless someone can point out a potential pitfall,  am planning on redrilling the metal plate with a few 1/4" holes so that I can mount recessed magnets that mate with magnets epoxied onto the glass plate.

Re: My new custom glass bed mount...

Well, my table is much larger than stock and the clips are well beyond range of machine travel.  I can z zero my machine and still run the full length of y at both x axis' extremes and clear the clips completely.  That was the most important aspect for me..... no chance of crash, ever. smile

I've found that the little added weight of the thicker bed is actually beneficial as backlash is virtually non-existent except for perhaps when printing first z+ layer but I have not seen this to be the case.  Heating seems more even and even when shutting the resistor off for a short period of time bed reheats are quicker.

While not knocking the magnet method, I figured the clamping would never be as postive as something more mechanical such as springs or screws.  Plus this way I can adjust tension so as to not over pressure the glass nor to light and risk movement.

What thickness and material is the new metal plate? My aluminum bed is so warped that when I clip opposite corners, I break glass.

Re: My new custom glass bed mount...

I went about 1/4" thick...

Re: My new custom glass bed mount...

Your mount looks fabulous!
I see you are using hairspray and the skirt looks perfect.
My carriage is some kind of warped and a tried to level my bed but I'm having no persistend level.
Only kapton works for me.
The cooling-fin on your x-motor... where did you get this one?
