Hello all,

Long time lurker second time poster.

I'm following this guide to get my new v6 hotend working. I've never done anything like this so naturally I'm a bit nervous. I'm stuck on line 12. Defining what version of solidoodle. I can't find it for the life of me. I hit control F and typed in Solidoodle and I get nothing. Is it that important to define what version I have? Mine being a Solidoodle 3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

        #define SOLIDOODLE_VERSION 2 (line 22 on mine) Change to #define SOLIDOODLE_VERSION 3                 

This would be in the Solidoodle specific Marlin, which is an older version. If you downloaded a more current version of Marlin, then it most likely will not be there.

I have already-compiled versions of the baseline Solidoodle Marlin firmware, baseline + gcode fan, and baseline + gcode fan +E3dv6 + calidum heated bed (that PrintItIndustries sells).  I keep the original as a 'known good' backup, and have saved an archive copy every time I've made an upgrade.  If you need any of those, I can post a link to my files.

I appreciate the offer. I will see what happens for me first. How do you make a backup of the original firmware? I may answer my own question when I get further into the process. lol I will be most likely re-updating the firmware later on when I get my silicone heated bed installed.

I appreciate the quick responses you guys! I expected this to be a ghost town. lol I've had my SD3 since 2014 and this is the first mod I've done requiring a firmware update.

So I went ahead and flashed the firmware. I had a bunch of issues so I ended up reflashing many times. lol  After a while I found a compiled firmware for my printrboard rev E. The only thing I had to change was solidoodle 2 to 3. The thermister (set to 5) seams to be good (for now). The retract (fillament) and extrude buttons are backwards. Also the extruder fan doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have any insight to how to fix these issues?



I also plan on adding a new silicone heated bed with (i think) a 100k thermister. I was planning on adding it later after getting this hotend figured out.

Interesting, I've never heard of that kind of heated bed. I have it bookmarked now. Unfortunately I already bought the silicone heated bed. I've had it a little while so I can't return it. If it sucks I will definitely move over to one of those heated beds. My factory heated bed is absolutely terrible. lol About 60% of it's surface gets hot enough to be usable. I upgraded my power supply to a 30 amp. Would that be enough to run this heated bed?

yes, a 30 amp would run it fine.
you haven't heard about it because it is not a "mass market" item, and it only comes in the one size. But it is definitely worth every single penny.

My printers have some serious thermal mass to heat up - 3/16" thick aluminum plate plus a mirror tile on top of that - and these do the job in very little time.
the stock silicone heater that the SDs came with would take a good 25 minutes to heat that much mass to 100C, and even then, the edges never got to temp - even with insulation under it.
With these, it is just under 10 mins, and the WHOLE bed is up to temp - not just the middle - and with no insulation under it.
And here is the real kicker... it works so well I was able to drop the bed temp to 90C and still have excellent adhesion printing ABS.

I bought one when they first came out.. installed it on my favorite printer - an SD4... ran it for a bit to test it out. Liked it so much I bought the 2nd one for the other SD4. I also have a PrintIt Industries Horizon which comes with one of these.

Just recently added another SD4 to my collection, and it will also be getting one of these heaters. Already have it here, just need to find the time to get it installed.

Man that sounds like a bad ass heated bed. It will be my next heated bed after I give this silicone bed a try. You have quite a fleet of printers. I used to want to build one but work is eating up all my time. lol So I'll just tinker with what I have now.

I managed to figure out the inverted feed issue. I'm still trying to figure out how to get that manual fan control to work in repetier host. I tried putting m107 in the Gcode to enable the fan but that didn't work either. I'm still researching around, I also may try a different hex file.

I've searched through my Configuration.h file, and it contains nothing like what you've posted.

What printer, motherboard, firmware, etc. are you using?

Mine is an SD4, with the stock Printrboard, with Marlin firmware edited to enable gcode fan, E3Dv6 hot end, Calidum bed heater, and Expansion ports enabled.

Sorry for the delayed response I have been out of my office for several days. I have a SD Workbench. First problem I ran into was that it wouldn't print circles. I started making sure the pulleys and stuff were tight and straight but still got ovals when printing circles. After some time I abandoned the printer, recently I decided to upgrade it and see if I could bring it to life. When first restarted it I had trouble connecting to it and my laptop recognizing it. Once I just kept turning it off then back on until the software picked it up. I also ordered a V6 hot end for it and have that installed. I wanted to updated it to accept the hot end and to see if I have a bad stepper motor. So to answer your question it had whatever came with the SD workbench model, the only thing I have changed is the new hot end.

Ok.  I just finished rebuilding a Workbench, so I can be of some help there.  I re-used the Workbench pulleys, belts, rods, and Y-carriage.  I made a new carriage for dual Titans, an E3D Chimera, and three fans.

I took the Printrboard out, and installed a DuetWiFi.  I don't have any firmware files for the Workbench Printrboard, just for the SD4.  Even though the motherboards are the same, I'm guessing there's differences due to the second extruder etc.  If you have a link to Workbench firmware, I'd be glad to look through the configuration.h file.

Thank you for your help. When if comes to simply building and putting this stuff together I can handle that no problem but the software aspect kills me. I was following these instructions on post 16

Ok, I'm not explaining myself well.

Those instructions are for a SD3/SD4.  I have used them several times myself.  I'm sure the procedure is identical for the Workbench, since it is also a Printrboard. 

Here is my question:
Where did you get that configuration.h file?

Here is why I ask:
-The configuration.h file for my SD4 does not contain lines like you posted.
-The configuration.h file on github that post #16 of that thread links to, does not contain lines like you posted.
-Those lines look like python, not configuration.h data.

In that configuration.h file from github, the first mention of ENABLE_AUTO_BED_LEVELING occurs at line 403.  There are additional instances at lines 405, 489, and 496; none of them are followed by information like the posted lines.

Is it possible some other lines were accidentally inserted in a cut-and-past mishap?

Given the circumstances, the compiler error is correct.  "tmp_extruder" is not declared in configuration.h.  It is not mentioned anywhere else in that file.

You may consider backing up your work so far, making a new pull from github, and starting over.

Here is where I got the config.h file. The SD_WB_PrintrBoard_1E3D.

Senin, can you post your configuration.h as is?

Arduino IDE as is does not support the motherboard selected in sketch. The board selected is a Teensy2.0++ and needs extra support installed into the IDE found here.

Once that is done is still get compile errors but nothing like what Senin is getting.
