Topic: Resizing

A while back I asked about resizing something and that it would take a huge amount of time to print which was something like 4 days (from fading memory)

So my lad, eventually stepped in to using Sketchup on a windows PC and hes dome a few things and I am printing one item off now that I had to resize by shrinking.

Now the problems that are evident is that the item despite being shrunk and a faster print time, the supporting walls are practically wafer thin despite demanding a minimum wall thickness of 1.2mm.

Any idea on what is going on?

Re: Resizing

Well that was a weird print.

Can't begin to describe what it is that it printed but it looks like a house that is in the sketch.

Only missing 50% of its roof.

Some elements appear to have started printing in mid air and as such, didn't print properly...

Re: Resizing

and when I say mid air, they are elements that start from the base up, so its missing off a big part of the print for some reason.

Re: Resizing

So looking at the print, one thing was suggested by my son, in the drawing, the doors are sloped but he forgot to remove the line dividing the section from the main construction, so consequently, there was a bed adhesion issue and id also was confirmed because of the evidence of lifting at the corners.

IDK why, its set to print a brim but it never does, something seems to be wrong with the software, it used to print a brim everytime but now its straight in there and no reason for it.

AND!!! it stopped where it did, ignored finishing the rest of the roof..!

Again, no rhyme or reason, even the software said it had completed.

Re: Resizing

Looks like heat cramp to me. You need to either lubricate you hotend fan, or replace it with more powerful one, or open the top lid of your enclosure if you have one. Lower nozzle temperature sometimes helps.

The heat cramp sometimes result in partial clogged throat or nozzle or PTEF tube. That will be something looks like the problems below the roof. But if you don't take care of the cooling issue, this partial clog will repeatedly happen no matter how many times you clean the throat and nozzle and make you want to spend lots of money buy an authentic E3D. But what you really need is a better fan or track down the real cause of the heat build up in hotend sink.

Re: Resizing

I have noted that the software isn't turning off the heaters after the print DESPITE having specific Gcode to end with to turn off heaters, leave head above bed clearing the print, etc.

I have tried faster flow rate BUT over 105% ir starts to make hideous grinding noises.

The hot end is heated to 250 degrees C I found that the 3DPrintz filament prints well at about 225 deg but this stuff needs hotter.

TBH I am not sure if its the USB cable that is not transmitting the data correctly as it is a 3meter length going in to a powered hub then the printer plugs in to the powered hub (powered hub from the mains)

SO... I will try to put the print job on SD Card and try to make a print from there, see what happens.

it is NOT "cramp" - it is "creep" - heat CREEP - ie: the heat "CREEPS" up the hotend, causing problems.

Getting it to respond to additional g-code functions was an issue I had and one of the reasons I swapped out the controller.

It seemed to only want to follow the default settings regardless of my additions.

Re: Resizing

when using profiles make sure you save the profile
and make sure the profile you just save is the same  on you have selected in the slicer.
