Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I'm trying to figure out a way to wipe the nozzle.  I thought I remember someone saying that one of the pro machines does this building a wipe / cooling tower.  May not be practical but just brainstorming.

This is an awesome project.  Rondavouz, do you have any offhand estimate to what it might cost to implement your design?  I tried looking through the Airtripper extruder pages but couldn't find any good number to work from.

Of course it will depend on sources for parts, but I am just interested in a guess right now.

Jikes, this is my list as far as I have it atm:

2x hot ends = $100 , pre wired, pre shrink wrapped cables and so on.
2x nema 17 = $30
Nuts bolts and spring = $25 (I bought 2x waynes extruder kits nuts and bolts from ebay, might be cheaper to buy separate)
4x Quick push adapters = $12
2x mk7 gear = $20 (same as org extruder uses, I just didnt want to take it apart)
1meter Bowden tubing = $4
2x bearing for support on motorshaft= $5

Must have:
Biggest cost: Ramps 1.4 around $140.

Cool, good to know, thanks!

Posted to borrow ideas if applicable (yes I posted this in two different threads)

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

Hello,

I'm starting the print of your extruder, hope things will go well.
I'd need more infos on the hot end though, what parts did you use, etc.

I want a single bowden extrusion system.

Best regards,
Thomas.

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

Someone had success using HIPS as a support material and dissolving it in Limonene.  HIPS is about $20/.5lb, uses similar temps to ABS and Limonene is pretty safe-

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I saw that too I was going to post it here.  They said 235C extruder and 115C bed, are those the actual temps since the thermistor is not positioned perfectly?  I thought you blogged about that before.

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

That would probably be 200 for the extruder.  I hope 115 for the bed isn't necessary, I've never been able to get mine anywhere close to that.

35

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I max out at 106C on the bed with the Solidoodle factory resistor.

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I don't think I've tried anything more than 95C, you guys are much more patient than me.

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I plan on picking up some HIPS from Filaco soon to check it out.  Anyone see HIPS in colors?

38

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

Are you using it as a dissolvable support or just playing with it for mechanical properties?

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

I dont have a bowden setup right now. I will probably wait til my rep2x comes in to use HIPS and my nylon618

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

Hi Rondavous,

Thanks for sending me the link to this thread! This is brilliant, can you update me how the two colour printing is going? Are you still using the two bowdens?

Is it as simple as clicking on 2 extruders in repiter software then configering the distances between? I haven't a clue how this works

Re: Solidoodle 2x2 (dual bowden extruder)

Just curious as to how this set up is performing.  Any cool prints to show?

Hi, Any progress on your prints? I was wondering, don't you need a fan on your jheads?
