Topic: Bubbles under Polyimide Bed tape

what is the secret to not having bubbles in the tape. I have tried starting it and using a squeegee to lay it down
and end up with bubbled. I have used Windex so it wont stick (like applying decals) and when I heat the bed I have bubbles.
I have fought this for years.

I am running a stock Makerbot and do not want to change to glass and hairspray or gluestick.

Thanks
Dale.

I don't use tape, I use glass + glue stick, works great. I do read somewhere mention use soapy water to lay out kapton tape.

Windex is not soapy water, it contain ammonia which generate bubble after almost dry.

Make soapy water from the actual soap or handwashing/dishwashing liquid.

Not sure what your dislike with glass and hairspray is. If you tried it, you ask why you did not do it sooner. The results are great. Plus the side in contact with the glass has a glass smooth finish to it which in some cases is a bonus to the print.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

The kapton tape is not meant to last, you will have to replace it sooner or later. I prefer glue stick over hair spray because hair spray can spill to place I don't want them to be, glue stick are lot easy to control.

When you use hair spray you are supposed to spray the glass before you put in the printer. I personally use mirror panels. I like the look of the reflection. You also should use real spray and not a pump type that dries slower. By doing it this way there is no way the spray can get into the printer or it's mechanics. Glue is fine but it needs to be reapplied more often than hair spray. I can do thirty prints on one coat of hairspray.

True, Glue only last about 5 prints, then I have to brush some water to make the glue evenly redistributed again. Take glass plate outside of printer is lots of pain, but not too bad if you only have to do it every 30 prints.

thats not true at all. I use glass and elmers glue. I only have to apply glue once a month or so and i print daily

I agree it will last longer, but I don't take chances, I don't have to apply glue every 5 prints, I just brush the bed with wet brush to make it more average.
