Topic: Repetier for Solidoodle
I've put up a blog post and videos on setting up and using Repetier Host with the Solidoodle. It covers updating the firmware, configuring Repetier, Slic3r settings, and using the program.

Can't wait to try this, but I'll have to, The Dr won't let me sit at a desk for long for another couple of days
Thanks for the tutorial

Thank you.
But the waiting for my printer gets every day harder
Have a nice day

Have not received my SD2 yet...but have been following the Repetier talks as well as Ian's website...looks awesome!
Q. - Would you suggest switching over to Repetier out of the box; or should I plan on using RepG / Skeinforge / Pronterface just to get familiar with the printer?
I switched after a week and haven't looked back.
I also switched, and like Repetier much better.
My first print was in Pronterface just to se that everything was moving in the right directions and so on, and then I switched
Thanks!...'nuff said. Now I just wait for my printer!
I have never once used Pronterface and Skeinforge with my Solidoodle. Thi is of course thanks to Ian's great blog posts.
Any reason why my interface isnt displaying correctly?
namely the filament and printer settings boxes in the slic3r tab.
photo attached.
im running windows ultimate 64bit
rephost v0.70 and slic3r 9.
Does it still do that if you make the 3d preview smaller? The settings pane looks squished. What happens if you drag the border between them to the right?
Genius :-)
It worked.
I've followed the instructions in the videos, but when I start printing at X75,Y75, it ends up on the left front of the build platform (somewhere around X30,Y30). I'm not sure what setting is wrong.
When connecting the Sanguino reports that it's running Lawsy's firmware.
If I load (standalone) Skeinforge gcode in Repertier and press print, X75,Y75 ends up in the middle, but if I run the STL through Slic3r, it ends up way on the left front of the build platform.
Here's some slic3r gcode that ends up way out of whack:
M107
M104 S195 ; set temperature
G21
G91
G28
G92 E0
M109 S195 ; wait for temperature to be reached
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
G21 ; set units to millimeters
G92 E0
M82 ; use absolute distances for extrusion
G1 Z0.300 F3000.000
G1 X76.490 Y71.490
G1 F600.000 E1.00000
G1 X76.855 Y71.160 F1114.397 E1.02607
G1 X77.242 Y70.872 E1.05162
Does anyone have an idea what is going wrong?
I have updated the firmware today to get rid of this bug (I hope).
Please download the latest copy, test and post up if it's fixed.
The updated firmware fixed the issue! Thank you lawsy!!!
Thanks Ian. I saw this on your blog and this and it's all I've used since I got the printer. It's a very convenient all in one solution.
I get an error when following the first video.
just after upload, it seems to run and then this
Binary sketch size: 49710 bytes (of a 63488 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51
anyone else run into this ?

i think i found my own answer, in tools i had to select com3 instead of the default com 1. although at the end of the video you say to "hit the reset" button but i dont see a reset button.

Some have been having a bootloader related issue. This is there error that is associated with it. Basically, if this is the problem you will need a new ATmega chip from us.
Does one still need to install the Python, Pronterface, etc. per the original SD software instructions, or can you just start out with the Marlin firmware update and Repetier?
With all of the updates, a revised step-by-step on software install from receiving the printer to the first print with Repetier would be appreciated...especially by us Newbies!!
I think the Repetier install comes with everything you need. It is bundled with Skeinforge 50, which has some important differences from the version Solidoodle recommends. I would recommend doing the Solidoodle install as well so that you can point Repetier to their version of Skeinforge. Even if you plan on using Slic3r, you should have Skeinforge set up in case you run into something that Slic3r has trouble with.
So far the instructions should still be the same, unless Solidoodle has been shipping printers with the current firmware. If that is the case, you wouldn't need to do the update. The only reason for updating the firmware is getting homing to work correctly, since Repetier needs a G28 (go to home) command in the start code rather than simply running an axis far enough to hit an endstop.
Thanks Ian!

The repetier install is very easy actually.
Is anyone using version 0.74 or Repetier-Host? Mine kills the extruder's heat after the G28 gcode command is issued.
