Topic: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

Doesn't show up in search... how come on one seems to be talking about this? The amazon reviews are remarkably high, and for $1K, it looks like an excellent unit, even if it uses proprietary filament cartridges.

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

It is one of the few plug and play printer, the company have great customer service so people don't have to look for help on internet. Besides not affordable for most people, there is nothing wrong with this printer. I have four 3D printer and have used 30 spool of filament so far, everything add up can not buy one of this printer or 30 spool of its proprietary filament. (note that my 30 spool filament are 2.2lb, Sindoh filament are about 1.1lb)

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

The machine is sold by matter hackers in Southern California. And it does appear to use chipped filament similar to the XYZ davinci. The filament is $29 a roll i see no specs of roll size I expect as the previous poster mentioned it is a 500 g roll rather than the standard 1 kg roll. that put the price of filament at 4x what I pay. And you would not have a choice.
I would stay away from this for many of the same reasons I would stay away from a davinci  it is not open source you can not likely mod the firmware or do any upgrades that are effected by the firmware .
Not sure what else to recommend in that price range with that build volume. A creator pro may be worth looking at.

Hmmm I suspect Dorion and Trevor are closely related seeing as how the only post Trevor has ever made was the one liner in this thread.

Dorion, I am sorry to break it to you and you can thank XYZ for this but users are tired of chipped filament and proprietary systems. This is going to hurt your product majorly and is a step backwards. If you intend to make money on filament I would forget it. Just as with XYZ it will only be a matter of time before people hack your firmware and chips or they just gut your machine and use it as a jump start for an open source machine.

The market wants open source as should be evident by all of these "how do I hack this?" threads.

Cough! Cough! Here I am.

As former suspected XYZprinting employee, I only want to say, I can understand how Dorion feels right now.

I think Dorion just want a reliable plug and play 3D printer since her Da vinci 1.0 show signs of falling apart when brand new and has only stop gave her trouble for only 3 weeks.

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

i don't really care who is who... the simple fact is, people do not want proprietary products.
They want to be free to use whatever filament they want to use, in whatever color they want to use - not limited to maybe a dozen colors if they are lucky.

I currently own 5 printers - NONE of which are proprietary.
I also have over 50 spools of filament - each one different. Of those, about 30 are ABS and ALL are different shades of color

Does this Sindoh offer 30 different shades? of ANY thing?

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

There is no such thing as a plug and play 3d printer. If it is advertising as such then that is just bait and sales hype. You are always going to need to do calibrating, adjusting, and repairing. It's the nature of the hobby.

If you really just want to plug it in, load it, and go. This hobby is most likely not for you.

I don't think everyone take 3D printing as hobby, some were just take 3D design as hobby and need to turn their design into reality or so called prototyping. Many of them don't even care that much about the printing quality and choice of color. They don't care it is print out of ABS or PLA or how long it take to print.

I also see significant amount of people enjoy post printing processing their model, they polish and paint their print and really enjoy the process, printing resolution of color of filament is not as important.

Let's face it, people define the nature of 3D printing hobby as calibrating, adjusting, and repairing are actually small percentage. The reality is, most people are not capable of learn and master all those calibrating, adjusting, and repairing.

Plug and play 3D printer do exist, they may not give you best printing quality, and they most likely can not use 3rd party filament, and more importantly, they are not affordable for most of us. But I believe it is the trend of 3D printing business.

The company I work for was prepared to purchase a Stratasys FDM printer (at over $200,000), but we decided against it solely because of the proprietary materials. In our case it wasn't the color or material choices that were limiting, but the price.

Uh, weird. I've never been the focus of a conspiracy theory before, certainly not from a post where I just asked a question without offering any opinion or information.

I don't know Trevor. I don't own a Sindoh, I don't work for Sindoh. I was just asking because based on some purchases, Amazon keeps putting it in front of me, all the reviews were ridiculously high, and I didn't see anyone talking about it at all.

And Carl, frankly, I don't appreciate it. I'm just trying to learn here.

I totally agree, I think proprietary materials can have better quality control, better compatibility, better designed cartage to provide consistent filament flow and less temperature characterization. However, it need to be priced right. I think with all these benefit, 20% more expensive than average naked 3rd party filament is reasonable.

Also, not allowing user to use 3rd party filament, prevent user to use all filament on the spool is a stupid idea. You loose so called user experience in the very beginning. Not to mention extra effort taken to prevent user use 3rd party filament add complexity to software and hardware and lead to more bugs and worse user experience.

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

I have been messing with the new Sindoh 3DWOX 1 for about 3 weeks now.  That thing is kicking ass.  Exactly what I was looking for.  Fully enclosed, nice quality printer made by a real company. Not some over hyped kick starter using a bunch of 3d printed parts built by some pot smoking hipster kids in Colorado.   I built an ORD bot about 5 years ago.  I learned a lot about patience and time management from that experience.  Also that extruder technology was still evolving  Then I tried the very first Divinci from Amazon.  That thing was surprisingly reliable but ultimately you get what you pay for.
While I was shopping for a new printer over the last 6 months my main criteria was the following.
1.  High quality prints.  Isint that what we all want?
2.  I don’t need large build volume (15 day prints???? No thank you)
3.  Has to be full enclosed. This is a deal breaker for me.  I keep my printers in my machine shop.  It’s pretty dusty as well as Not always temperature stable.  The Davinici showed me the way.
4.  Cost.  Didn’t really care
5.  No 3d printed parts.  I’m sick of looking at some over hyped printer using shitty prints for critical components.
6.  Proprietary filament requirements?  Having used the Davinici it Wasn’t a deal breaker for me.  I believe that proprietary filament probably had much to do with the Davinci reliability.  But the new 3dwox 1 can run with any filament now. I have only run it so far with Sindoh brand.  Will have to see how it works out with the other brands.

7.  Dual extrusion?  I said I wanted high quality prints.   Not a bunch of extruders flapping around.

So far the quality I’m getting is awesome.  I started out with the Sindoh software.  It will yield nice prints right out of the box without any tuning.  I got a few little strings here and there.  But bed adheasion with their metal flexible build plate was awesome.  Also their bed leveling system was working great for me.  I just started running it with Simplify3d using some Sindoh profiles I found online.  It’s taking me to the next level without any tuning.  Love this thing so far!

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

For phone images they sure have some weird file names. Not a date or DCIM name like most but hey who am I to judge? So lets judge your awesome over priced printer based on just the first image. It's over extruding based on the little globs left at each direction change as evident in the doorway of the benchy and some other areas. It is also moving too fast as evident by the ringing seen in the anchor port to its right. Those echoes are caused by flex in the mechanical structure not being able to recover from the direction change fast enough. But if the machine suits your standards, that is all that matter I guess.

Also no one asked if you work for them so why add this statement unless you do?

Re: Is anyone talking about Sindoh 3DWOX?

Let me preface this post by saying I too have a real job, and don't work for any 3D printing or manufacturing company. big_smile

While I'm not a fan of  proprietary hardware, and/or consumables, there is something to be said about tightly controlled ecosystems.  XYZ is one company that does it, 3DWOX is another, but if you look at the "professional" or "industrial" grade  models, they all do this.  And there's a good reason for it.

Unlike us hobbyists, who have nothing but time, to tweak and tinker with our toys, in a business environment, time is money, very expensive money, and having access to something that works, every time, all the time is more important than the cost of the hardware, software or consumables.

So I understand where these guys come from.

Having said all this, there appears to a refillable cartridge available for this printer.  So why can't you use it to refill it with your choice of filament:
