Topic: Filament pushes loose PTFE cable

Hi all!

We own a Da Vinci Pro 3 in 1 and recently have made it work. However, within the first 4 prints we did, the filament roll got tied in a knot, and we noticed too late, resulting in the printer printing with air and the extruder trying to extrude stuck filament.

We untied the filament and tried a new print, needless to say it didn't work. The extruder motor would push filament through and the nozzle was properly fed as well (it's not clogged for sure) but the filament pushed the PTFE cable loose, first out of the printer head, and then from the extruder. The printer was then filled with loose filament.

We took apart the extruder housing to see if the motor was clogged or something and cleaned the cogwheels. Tried to print again but same problem arose.

We also pulled the PTFE cable out of the extruder end before, which may have been a mistake.

We now ordered a new PTFE 4mm outside 2mm inside and a new extruder pneumonic fitting to which the PTFE cable is connected and we hope that replacing those will fix it, but we're not sure.

Has anyone had this problem before? How did you fix it?

First, preheat the hotend and manually push the filament in, make sure there is not clog or jam anymore. If you can not push filament in manually when hotend is >200, you need to clean the hotend first.

Then check if the end of the PTFE cable is damaged, simply cut 5-10mm of the end of the PTFE cable and push it back in. it should lock on its own and can not be pulled out easily unless you push the plastic ring on the hose connector.

If it still get pushed out, you need to replace hose Connector depend on what size you have (M6 vs M10)

replace the hose Connector should fix the problem if cut the end of PTFE tube did not.

You will need to replace the PTFE tube and hose Connector sooner or later if you have bowden setup, they are inexpensive anyway.

The server here is slow so you may want to wait a while before pressing that submit button again. you made like six post that are identical. Might want to go back and delete the redundant posts.

In case you can not wait for the hose connector and willing to beat the dead horse, you can pull out the blue or black color plastic ring from hose connect and see if the inner metal flower shaped ring is broken or misaligned (you can kind of see part of it from the image below). if it is broken to pieces, broken hose connector is definitely the cause of your problem. If is is misaligned or slide to one side, align it and put it back, it may last until your new hose connector arrive.

It is fun to see how it works anyway.

Installed new hose connector and PTFE cable. It works again! We did still need to tie rip the nozzle end of the PTFE cable bc that came out still, but it works. Thanks!

Did you changed the hose connector on the nozzle end? I think they are the same size, in case you bought more than one hose connector, replace that one too.

No, we didn't yet and we have a new problem unfortunately... The printer's making a clicking noise and midway through a new print, when we thought we'd repaired it successfully, the feeding of filament stopped. The PTFE and pneumonic fitting are good, but it just stopped feeding filament and started making clicking noises.

We did switch over to 1.75 mm filament instead of 3 mm since we bought too tight a PTFE tube. Trying to figure out what went wrong here...

switch over to 1.75 mm filament instead of 3 mm will not work, you need different hotend for 1.75 mm filament and 3 mm filament, otherwise it will jam your hotend. The clicking noise is because you have filament jam in hotend and extruder can not push filament. If your pneumonic fitting not tight, your PTFE tube will came out.

I don't think your old PTFE tube have problem, just use the old PTFE tube and replace pneumonic fitting on both end with the new one. (assuming your new pneumonic fitting are correct in size). switch back to 3mm filament and clean the jamed hot end.

Hi all,

Thanks for this thread. I have a Da Vinci Mini (brand new from Xmas 2017), and had major problems with my filament pushing my filament hose out of the fitting, and causing prints to fail.
I replaced the hose fitting (my printer came with a spare), and it has solved the problem for me.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to answer questions, it was a HUGE help!
