Topic: $99 3D Printer Obsidian worth checking out

Hello solid forum people!

I am new to the community and as my first post would like to share about this new $99 3D Printer which we are funding now on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/2td0MjS

Kodama proved they can deliver affordable machine as we funded and delivered Trinus printer last year.

Cheers

You get what you pay for.  Don't have high hopes for a $99 printer. I bet it'll go the same way the tiko printer did.

That is cute, Kodama delivered already and we are not Tiko! Obsidian is fully in house developed printer and quality it delivers is easy in level with $1500 printers.

The Peachy I kickstarted was only going to be $100 and that didn't work out so well.

I'm still waiting to see if the ONO (also $100) will go the same way. Looks like they're still working on getting them out but it's way behind.

The claim on the Peachy was one of the partners took the raised money to build a home and buy some other things.

Sorry, but i will NEVER back a kickstarter campaign, ever.

Yeah, the whole kickstarter thing started out as a great idea/concept, but it has been used and abused to death at this point.

That said - I am not even remotely interested in a "cheap" printer - I don't care what the claims are.

From where I sit, there is NO way you can build a QUALITY, RELIABLE 3d printer for under $100. Sorry, I just don't believe it.
You can make all the claims you want to make on the net, I don't really care. People make outlandish claims every day.

I say this after rebuilding 2 used Solidoodles that are now SUPER reliable machines and it cost me WAY more than $100 in the parts to do so, and that does not include the motors, frames and a few other bits. (never mind the cost of purchasing them to start with)
Could I have done this for less cost? Yeah, probably, but they most likely would not be nearly as reliable as they currently are.

I have also built 3 kit printers ranging in price from $270 to $500 - and while they are OK machines, they are not nearly as good as they could be with further improvements (i.e.: spending more money on them)

Cost is not the ONLY factor when I am looking at a 3D printer.
It MUST be solid - structurally.
It MUST be reliable - I want to turn it on, slice my model and hit print - not spend hours re-calibrating everything because it got bumped in passing.
I also do not want to worry about it starting on fire randomly - even tho I never run my printers unattended (part of the reason I have moved away from cheap boards - random meltdowns of the main power connections).
I have NO use for something with less than an 8x8x8 (200x200x200) build volume, either - bigger would be better to be honest. and it MUST be capable of printing not just PLA, but ABS and Nylon as well (i.e.: full enclosure and heated bed standard, along with a hotend capable of the kind of temps needed for Nylons)

So, good luck with your cheap printer - no interest here.

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1
Printit Industries Beta Tester - Horizon H1

yeah like others posted above I too have seen dozens of kickstarter fails and 3D printers never complete  production/delivery to investers etc. then fade into un-writen history likeall  their promises/claims. may as well start a 'go fund me' page for retirement money, at least tell investers the truth up front lol. save the pipe dreams for young nubes.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs
