Topic: Odd sounds on Y-Axis

In my last two prints, towards the end, I heard a creaking sound when the Y motor would activate, but only at towards the end finishing off the top of a cathedral in a carcassonne tile set.  When the print was done, I moved the extruder in all directions and couldn't hear anything.  Has anyone heard something like this?  Is it just the aluminum buckling?  :\

It sounds a bit like a ship creaking.  I'll try to get a recording of it next print.

Edit:  Uploaded an MP3 of how it sounds.  It is creaking at the beginning, then again at 5 seconds it is really loud.  You can hear the normal way it sounds in the background.

I have also come in similar cases and also not always, and when printing certain models. I think this is due to resonance, which occurs at a certain engine speed.

Update - it seems to have mostly gone away... :\  I'm not sure if it is a Z-height thing or what, but I haven't heard it in a few prints now.  Weird...

Re: Odd sounds on Y-Axis

I've found that the y-stepper is under powered. In my case, i herd sounds at the end of large prints and realized the stepper way getting hot. Put on some heat sinks, all gravy.
