Is the extruder fully up to temperature when you try to exclude?  If the sensor is off, it may not be running hot enough to extrude.  The opposite problem may also be true; that it's too hot and melting the filament before it makes it all the way to the nozzle.  Lastly, make sure there aren't loose plastic particles in the feed mechanism and that you don't just need to adjust the tension a little bit.

Re: extruder problems

i'm pretty sure its up to heat the repetier will not print if its not hot enough

is there a certain tension i should adjust it to? or how should i adjust it

Re: extruder problems

There is a minimum extrusion temp in the firmware but this is only 170. Most people will print closer to 200. Please read the temp and make sure it's nice and hot.

i have been i only start printing once it reaches atleast 195 but the problem isn't the pastic its the wheel isn't moving at the top if there is tension on it i've been observing it today

A video would help tremendously. It is often difficult to understand what is happening based on your descriptions.

Re: extruder problems

The set screw, or grub screw, for the extruder is loose. It is the small screw in the silver pulley on the extruder motor shaft. You will need a small allen wrench to tighten it, and may need to disassemble the acrylic jigsaw to do so.

thats what i thought but i wasn't sure how to fix it i only kind of figured out what was happening after i marked the shaft and the sproket or whatever the hell its called

Re: extruder problems

well i think i have it fixed just so you guys know you need the 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm hex wrench to fix this

Re: extruder problems

Well i wanted to share with you what i have been doing tonight. After fixing the extrder pully i have been fine tuning my printer to get ti so it would actually print. and thought i woudl share with you the test piece i've been doing all night and am fining it a pleasure to see it printing like it should. and i think i actually came up with a very difficult test lol

Re: extruder problems

Nice! smile Looks good , I am happy to see you got it working. The loose extruder drive gear setscrew would have been pretty much the last thing I would have expected yikes

Re: extruder problems

Check your computer settings to make sure you have sleep and power saver turned off.  Set up a profile for always on for printing.

Re: extruder problems

oh they are set no the power switch got turned off by one of my cats i think i will design a cover for them.

Re: extruder problems

Hence the Manx, I had a manx cat ages ago but it had a tail.  Good luck on the cover.

Give that updated dolphins logo another try I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Re: extruder problems

solidoodle finally responded;

Sir,
There is a small set screw on the side of the motor. You should be able to turn this. This may help, but you have our full support if it does not. In this case, we'd be more than happy to replace the parts that need replacement. Now, I did want to mention that was a little worried about your filament. This does not appear to be Solidoodle filament, and from the looks of it, it is quite dirty. This could cause a clog.

Tell me more about your situation and we shall move on from there.

Regards,
John

Re: extruder problems

I am having a similar problem I think, but my SD2 keeps jamming in a odd way (see image). I have replaced the extruder and tried the drive gear setscrew (I use SD abs) . Any other ideas??

Re: extruder problems

The filament is getting too hot, or your have a clog.

Did it do this after successfully printing with that same filament or had you just changed the filament? It does look like too high of extruder temp though...

Re: extruder problems

Thank-you for the response.

It happened on a ABS that I used for a while (at 200). The printer was working very well, but around two weeks ago did this. I thought clog then wrecked the old extruder core when repairing it. Got new  extruder yesterday, and it did as displayed in image straight away. After clean, I got one print (small print) before it did this again. Once heated and the old ABS is backed out, clipped and put back in, I get it to extrude easily then does this again as soon as first or second layer is put down.
