Topic: Printing Object scale never matches software: Please help

Hey guys, I've been having an issue that's really becoming frustrating over the last month or so with trying to setup print sizes. I've tried a few workarounds and supposed fixes but no luck so far.

I use 3DS Max 2011 and Skeinforge with Pronterface to create my prints on a 2nd Gen SD. But this one issue keeps causing me a fair bit of trouble.

In 3DS Max I've set my Unit Scales and System Units to Millimeters. (I've tried other combinations including Inches, and Centimeters. One plausible fix was keeping my scales uniform to mm, which hasn't worked.)

My measurements will report an object as 90x45x19 millimeters. Once I export the object to STL prepare it with Skeinforge and setup to print the scale will instead be something like 23x19x19 millimeters (Note Z doesnt change). I figured scaling it in 3DS Max to compensate would correct the issue in one manner or another, but then it will be the other extreme measuring 230x230x68mm.

Oddly enough, preparing a 10x10x10mm cube will correctly print 1cm3 using the exact same setup and process. So I'm really stumped by this issue.

Any help would be much appreciated as what I am printing is scale sensitive!
Thank you,

Re: Printing Object scale never matches software: Please help

I've seen the numbers reported in pronterface to be all over the map. I just don't pay attention to them. Have you printed the parts anyway and measured the results? My prints have never been out of scale, even with wacko pronterface numbers.
