Re: distortion on round holes

Me thinks you missed some adjustments.
check to see if the x rods are square to the y rods looks like  either a belt slipped or something got bumped out of alignment in shipping

Also after you make sure the carriage is square and belts tight make sure the grub/set screws are tight on the drive pulleys.
out of round  circles was a common problem on the Solidoodle 4s as well.
IMHO looks like a basic hardware adjustment issue.

Re: distortion on round holes

Make sure none of your bearing mounts in the side panels are cracked. If you have not pull the gantry fully forward and make sure that both sides touch the forward pulleys. If not then your belt on the side that is not touching has slipped a tooth or more. Some times you can just give it a good tug and cause it to skip back. Other wise you will have to loosen the tensioners and adjust it by hand.

Re: distortion on round holes

Probably not feasible on an XYZ printer without modification to the case (or maybe not even relevant since I don't know how the printer is put together inside the case), but all my distortion problems vanished on my solidoodle when I went with direct drive for the Y rod:
