Topic: Windows 10

Anyone happen to try printing on the Davinci 1.0a with Windows 10? I have tried running XYZWare but it will not find the printer. In Windows 10, the printer uses a new 3D Port and does not use the COM3 port that XYZWare is looking for. I change the port for the printer to COM3 and it is still unable to find the printer. However, the Microsoft 3D Builder app does find the printer and tries to send the print to the printer, but it will receive a communication error after sending the print. The printer acted as if was going to print because the bed raised up and then stopped.

I am running an older version of the software, version 1.1.34.4 and have not updated since I am using the resetter. I have thought about putting in a new cartridge and then updating the software and printer, but before I did that I wanted to see if anyone has any experience or other advice.

Thanks!

Re: Windows 10

I just upgraded my Win7 machine to Win10, DaVinci 1.0, using the XYZWare Open mod software. With the Open Mod or the stock XYZWare, I'm getting "device not found". I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work either. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear em'. If I can't get it running, I'll pull out an old Win7 laptop and use that lol...

I'm using 3rd party spool, as I don't want to pay 2x - 4x for filament, so no upgrading the software for me. This might be enough to push me into uploading the Repitier firmware and bypassing XYZWare all together.

Re: Windows 10

My printer is on a 6hr print but when it is done I will try and remember to plug in my laptop on windows 10 and see if it works.  I'm using repetier and I used my laptop on my printer last week so only thing that has changed is windows 10.

On another note when I updated to windows 10 I had bsod like crazy until I updated a bunch of drivers.  You may consider uninstalling network and sound drivers before updating as those seen to have the most problems.

Re: Windows 10

Same issue here. Anybody find a work around yet without getting the latest XYZ software and or flashing to repetier?

Re: Windows 10

Windows 10 identifies it as an actual printer now thanks to some built in 3d printer support. It is no longer seen as a comport. XYZ ware with exception of the newest version looks only for the comport and not the printer designation that win 10 gives it. Until somebody improves the XYZ open mod win 10 adopters are SOL if they own a Da Vinci and fo not want to flash.

Re: Windows 10

Well here is something interesting... open the new 3d builder app in windows 10 load an stl and print to your xyz printer.

Just found this, will look into it later on.

Re: Windows 10

Ok, so it be jumping the gun but basically those of us on stock firmware must do the software update if you have installed windows 10 in order for the printer to work again.  Doing so will render our resetters useless and again force us to use cartridges.  For me this plain sucks since I find the print quality fine with the stock firmware and actually like the idea of windows 10 integration.
I guess repetier it will have to be....

Anybody want to buy a resetter???

Re: Windows 10

I'm not sure on this to be honest. I think the firmware might be able to stay where it is. It's the drivers that are going to be updated which allow communication with the printer. Also because you are using a different application it might be better for XYZ owners as it might allow more function.

Need to do some testing first but I've downloaded the 3d model on my Windows 8.1 machine but it wont write to my printer.. I was holding off Win10 install but this might just make it worth while...

Who's going to try first?    lol

Re: Windows 10

So I sent a file from the 3d builder app in win10 to my 1.0a, screen said receiving job and it began to print and I mean it went right to printing with no extruder or bed warmup and obviously no filament extruded since it was cold.  I ran out of time to look into it any further but maybe later on I can get back to it.

Re: Windows 10

What about Simplify 3D and Windows 10. Will it connect to the DaVinci ?

Re: Windows 10

I see MS have taken out the scan option in windows 10. I will stay on win 8.1 for now. But things are looking up  smile

Re: Windows 10

I see the printer in windows 10
i also see it writes a offline_printing file on my sd card but then it reports wrong filament placed.
I cannot change the filament and because i only have PLA i cannot change it.

Re: Windows 10

I also got the wrong cartridge error about 10 seconds after it started to print, guess I will flash it this chasing things around to get something to work is getting old.

Re: Windows 10

Unfortunately I wont be bothering with W10 on my printer PC. I have a dedicated PC for my printer thats running just fine on 7 + Repetier

Repinci 1.0 + Repetier host

Re: Windows 10

Ok guys assuming the cost of simplify wasn't an issue would you flash or use simplify?

Both - I flashed my 1.0 with Repetier and use Simplify. (But I run mine off a Mac, so the Win10 aspect doesn't affect this printer).

I would do both. I switched to Repetier in fact I even replaced my logic for  RAMPS 1.4 and it made a world of difference. But there where still some prints giving me a fuss. I got S3D and all the prints came out perfect with minimal setting changes from what S3D installs with.

Re: Windows 10

Ok as an FYI I installed the latest xyz software to try it in windows 10 since I decided to flash my 1.0A anyway and it works as it did before, and yes the resetter still works fine as well. I will most likely still flash it anyway but anybody who was wondering there is your answer.

Re: Windows 10

I was having a similar problem on Repetier with my Davinci 1.0A after upgrading to windows 10. A print would start off normally, but once everything was in position the extruder would not heat up and I would get a "communication timeout - reset send buffer block" message before my printer went idle. I fixed this by going to printer settings and changing Reset on Connect to Due native USB port.

I know this is months later but it may save someone like me trouble shooting and finding nothing.

So I had my Da Vinci packed away since september because of moving and not having enough time to print. I came across this problem on my new system. I looked at my tablet I have that has window 10 non 1511 update. I noticed the driver is different on the tablet then what is on my new desktop.

  • Uninstall the device from device manager and tell it to remove drivers.

  • Plug it back. You will briefly see "XYZ Printing, 3D Printer Da Vinci (COM 3)" before updating to the new windows built in driver.

  • After it switches to the new driver Right click, select properties, Click the Driver Tab and select Roll Back Driver.

  • Your Open Mod Software will now see the printer.

Be warned you will have to do it again if you open 3D Builder because it appears to update the driver when you do. Which might be the reason my tablet could also see it because i never opened the 3d Builder software on it.
