Topic: Differences between Skeinforge & Repetier 0.3mm

Hi everybody

I'm new in the solidoodle world ( and 3d printing)
I received my printer a few months ago and I'm currently really testing it and i'm having some issues.
I start to print with Pronterface/Skeinforge for the beginning and the prints looks good in general.

I wanted to test the 0.1mm print so I downloaded Repetier and sliced my print with Slic3R with the profile I found on the solidoodle blog. I had a lot of issues with this profile so I came back to the 0.3mm on Slic3r to compare it with Skeinforge and the result are really different.

Even with a smaller print, the Skeinforge one (the red one) looks better than the Repetier one (the white)
The plastic is not aligned with the layer below, it's really fragile etc...

Is that a known issue ? Did I miss something in Slic3r/Repetier configuration ?

Also I have an other question and different. I'm using 3dsmax for the modeling and i'm having issues with the units. I'm setup on mm units in 3dsmax but when I open the files, they are not at the good size ( a lot smaller) That's why I wanted to try Repetier too.

Thank you for the help

Did you go to Ian's YouTube page and put his settings in?  http://m.youtube.com/feed/UCIdXEJdOG4_JWPI7LRzs-jA

Watch his extruder calibration video too.

Also try Skeinforge from inside RH, it's and option.  You may have to copy setting for it though.  Slic3r is not perfect, none of the current slicers are.  Slic3r is fast and has some good options for making good prints, but not models work well with it.  I have had a few errors with it where Skeinforge (inside RH) and Cura has made the Gcode without weirdness or extra stuff.

Re: Differences between Skeinforge & Repetier 0.3mm

Here is another test I did.
This is the same STL files.
One is sliced in Skeinforge and print in pronterface (right). The other one is sliced with slic3r and print with repetier. (left)
Some layers seems to be bigger in the slic3r one and they are not as regular as the other one.
The general shape have some issues too.

I really want to be able to print on repetier because some heavy files with skeinforge gives me a memory error.

lotw_1 > Hi !
The links give a lot of videos so I don't know which ones you are talking about.
I made some calibration as the z ofset, the leveling and I made the extruder calibration yesterday.

He has only for the Repetier Host.  One is for upgrading firmware, which isn't needed if a newer unit. The 1st of the vids is http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HIc0HQxCJUM. The second is http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NkXXqgJFPWs.

Re: Differences between Skeinforge & Repetier 0.3mm

First calibrate the extruder so that when you tell it to pull 1mm of filament, it will actually pull 1mm of filament -

Then determine what the Extrusion Multiplier in Slic3r should be.  This determines how much plastic should be extruded to make the lines the width they are supposed to be-

If you want to use Skeinforge in Repetier, check this post first -

http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … nforge-50/

Repetier is bundled with Skeinforge 50, which has some important differences from the version in the Solidoodle download.  If you ever want to try out Cura, that post will apply there as well since Cura is a front end for SF50.

Also keep in mind that Skeinforge and Slic3r handle the position of the first layer differently.  The Z tab might need to be adjusted when you switch between them

Re: Differences between Skeinforge & Repetier 0.3mm

Thanks both of you
I'm going to watch these videos and try to setup a bit better my printer. I didn't calibrate the flow rate.
I will come back later
Thanks again
