Topic: E3D, Printrboard & moire...

just upgraded the #2 SD4 to an E3D v6... this machine is still running the stock Printrboard Rev E, so swapping out the stepper driver is not an option...

So, to get rid of the moire, what kinds of options do I have, and what would be the "best" one, short of changing out the controller board? (which is an option, but don't really want to go there yet, if I don't have to)

I have seen discussion about the hobgoblin drive gear - but would that be enough by itself? or would i also need to change to a .9 stepper motor? (if so, I will swap controllers before buying another motor)

other suggestions?

I tinkered with the voltage trimpot until it quit - the upper/left is about as good as it gets in the current configuration - not good enough for me.. =P

Re: E3D, Printrboard & moire...

This is a non-answer, but I had the same moire problem and could not fix it with trimpot.  I did find there was less moire when printing PLA than printing ABS.

I ended up changing the driver (sanguinololu) and that pretty much fixed it.  Time for you to chuck the printrboard?

SD2 Sanguinololu 1.3a atmega1284p, wood platform, lawsy's carriages, braided fishing line, pallet wood overhead spool mount, carboard/magnet enclosure, glass bed, E3D v6, bed levelling knobs, extended z-stop, 25A DC-DC SSR for bed heater, everything fixed to the SD2 frame, marlin firmware with some adjustments and extra failsafes enabled.  I'll never give up on you, little printer that could(n't)!

Re: E3D, Printrboard & moire...

LOL, wouldn't be the first time I chucked a Printrboard, but I had a bigger reason to last time - the USB failed on that one...

I print mostly in ABS, but the whole reason for upgrading this printer is to be able to run the nylon on it as well... the moire is an issue that I need to correct.

Re: E3D, Printrboard & moire...

The Hobbgoblin will have a significant effect depending on the drive diameter you are currently running.  It runs a 6.5mm drive diameter.  Compared to a more standard drive gear which can be closer to 11 or 12mm, that is akin to upgrading from a 1/16 stepper driver to a 1/32.

For the cost, it is a worth a try...

SD2 - Stock - Enclosure - Heated Bed - Glass Plate - Auto Fire Extinguisher
Ord Bot Hadron - RAMPS 1.4 - Bulldog XL - E3D v6 - 10" x 10" PCB Heated Build w/SSR - Glass Plate

LOL, i ordered 2 - just because. wink

ordered a couple of spare 8825s, too, also just because - have a back-up Rumba sitting here, as well as a couple spare Ramps boards. I will be ready for just about anything.
