Topic: Failed X axis Stepper

Machine is a 6 month old SD4.
X axis ceased to work in the middle of a print.
Diagnosis showed no continuity through the Red-Blue stepper coil.
Disassembly of the stepper revealed a very tight ring holding the 4 wires together before they go to their respective coils.
Repaired the Red and covered repair with shrink tubing. Heating the repair to shrink the tubing and the Blue came apart.
Must have only been a few strands of wire left.
Repaired the Blue and the Black and Green went. Repaired those connections http://soliforum.com/i/?1NWLdwq.jpgas well.
I believe this is a generic manufacturing problem with these steppers exacerbated by a tie rap near the base of the motor to hold the nylon protective sleeving in place. You only need to remove the back of the stepper to perform this repair. Make sure to replace the spring washer on the back of the bearing when reassembling.

Re: Failed X axis Stepper

I have 2 3d printers and every thing works heating, melting, and the plate heats, but as it get's to the point to start printing it goes to the home corner and stops and starts making a loud noise, if I leave it the noise stops and the head tries to go to the start point but doesn't get there it starts to zig zag and just move around a little at which time I stop it. I have tried every thing I know to get it to work but even my other printer is doing the same thing????? Any help ????? Thanks Ron.
