Topic: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

This is probably well known, but I have not seen it posted in the forum in a clear form.

I have a 1.0 a DaVinci with 1.0.1 firmware.

I reset the cartridge using the instructions that are found just about everywhere, and then every print I did started to delaminate and fall apart.

There is mention of the same thing on the section about resetting the cartridge on this post:

http://www.soliforum.com/topic/6279/xyz … 10-hacking

I don't know if anybody else is found a better solution, but my next step is to flash repetier as I am fed up with dealing with their cartridges.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

I'm assuming that this is the first time that you reset a cartridge, and that also you are using a non XYZ printing filament for the first time. If that is the case, then the bed and extruder temperatures that worked for XYZ filament may not be optimal or even appropriate for the different filament you are using. Delaminating is most often the consequence of your extruder temperature not being high enough. Increase the extruder temperature by resetting that parameter with another reset of the cartridge and see how things go.

As an FYI it appears you accidentally reposted this issue 7 times in the forum.  If you can I would delete the other topics or have moderator assist with this.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

Thanks, I deleted them.  The server was struggling this morning when I posted.

Here is the thing... I spent hours last night troubleshooting, even took the whole head apart, cleaned it, and refit the thermistor.  Delamination with every print in the last 24 hours since resetting the cartridge.

I had about 20 hours of printing with other filaments, all working decently well with the original filament cartridge still in.

I reloaded the filament from the cartridge and reset it to the stock temperatures, but still, poor, brittle, delaminated prints.

So then, I opened up another XZY cartridge that I have, and loaded the filament.  Immediately, the keychain print worked great.  Loaded 3rd party filament, and now everything prints fine.

It is most certainly something in the EEPROM of the reset cartridge that is messing up prints with the 1.0A on 1.0.1 firmware.

There is something else that needs to be reset, other than the filament length, bed temp, and extruder temp...   The post that I referenced in OP stated that he had the same problem until he downgraded the FW on his 1.0, which is not an option with the 1.0A.

Does no one use stock firmware anymore???? LOL

Regardless, I know the solution here is to flash repetier, but I was hoping to solve this problem before I tackle that.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

I had no issues going between stock and 3rd party filament.  My XYZ carts I bought are all fairly old now, I don't have the newer ones so I am not sure if things changed.  I was having great success using my XYZ ZeroCart on stock firmware with the 3rd party filament.

So I never dealt with resetting the cart chips with the XYZ ZeroCart.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

mpoffo, do you have a 1.0 or a 1.0A?

If the XYZzerocart can do this successfully, I'm sure it can be done.  I Arduino sketch I am using was posted over a year ago, so most likely something has changed, and I just need to find a newer sketch.

Do you use your XYZzerocart any longer?  Interested in selling if not?

Not only do you have to use the resetter to change the count but for non XYZ filament you need to set the nozzle temp to 235 or more and set the bed to 60 to 90. Most stopped using stock firmware due to excessive current and motor wear as well as excessive noise. Also Repetier gives you access to settings that you really need for total control.

I have a 1.0A

I bought the XYZZEROCART from this web site:

I was not planning on selling mine just yet but that could change.  I thought I might try to pick up another used DaVinci but that is not certain.  I am leaning to building/buying an I3 Prusa as a second printer.

The point that is being missed here is that I am using the STOCK filament with STOCK settings, but I reset the length of the filament.

The prints don't work.  There is something else in the EEPROM reset that messes up the prints.

Either way, it probably doesn't matter.   I wanted to at least get through my 30 day return period with stock firmware, but XYZ has made that improbable!

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

If I recall correctly the Z offset changes up/down by 1mm every time I went to reset a cartridge.  It took me a while to figure out what was going on.  After that it was just a matter of setting the correct Z offset in my slicer setting

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

That would certainly explain it.   If the extruder is above where it should be then the "strings" appearance would occur.

Somehow, the commercial cartridge resetters must account for this because I don't hear a complaint from anybody using them.

I'm going to try othet cartridge reset scripts that I have found in different places. Does anybody have a link to one that they use actively with stock firmware and xyzware?

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

It started acting up again today after resetting my cartridge. I am convinced now that this has to do with the serial number on the cartridges. If it does not sense the right serial number increment, then it starts messing with the extrusion rate and your prints and up like crap.

I've learned what I can from xyz.  10 days is enough.  Going to repetier tonight.

XYZware writes to the sd-card. And if you're connected the printer to the net then XYZ will write to the sd-card.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

Not any more it don't...

I'm running Repetier now, baby!

Flash went fairly well.  Releveling the bed is a MUST.   Repetier host was sort of a pain, as it wouldn't find the printer on the COM port, so I just plugged it into another USB port and BINGO!  but the biggest issue for me was finding the stupid APPDATA directory for my previous slic3r settings... (just type %appdata% in the search bar!)

but now I'm printing away, without the crappy XYZ-hacked extrusion rates messing up my prints.

I'd recommend any newbs like myself getting your prints working well with Slic3r through XYZ-ware (using notepad ++ to add in the needed code) prior to making the switch.    That way all of your slic3r settings are pretty much ready to go.

I tried sending a print to SD card through repetier, and that failed miserably.   I have to decide if my next step is Flashair III card or setting up an Octiprint serve on a Raspberry Pi...

And I get lots of M106 errors during the print...  has to do with the extruder fan, as I left that as default when I compiled the repetier firmware.  These errors don't seem to affect the prints.

Well done dude. If I never had simplify3D I would maybe try what you've done.

Re: 1.0A does not work after cartridge reset

I haven't tried S3D but I'm sure you are still limited by the stock firmware in terms of ability to heat the bed and extruder whenever you want to whatever temp you want.  It's great to be able to preheat the things as you design/slice your file.

It's also great to forego the cartridges and resetters!

Never seen one. You could email them?

I use the resetter to do my temps on the bed\hotend.
