Topic: Davinci keeps breaking filament

Hi everyone I bought a davinci printer and the thermostat went lucky I didn't do the flash so maplin replaced it with a new one.
Anyway I've the resetter tool bought some pla but it keeps breaking on me are printing so much then stops ejecting the filament and fails .
Now I've the filament on a reel it's very free running on bearings so that's not the issue.
Should I buy some abs filament
Is pla no good for this printer
I'm only new asking questions but I'm pulling my hair out now I'm desperate for help on this
Love the site by the way ....Lee

It would help to know which model, There are about 6 different Da Vinci models now and only a few are actually capable of PLA without modifications.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.

I do apologize it's a da Vinci 1.0a
What I've done is refilled the stock cartridge with pla and reset the cartridge.
I also have tryed feeding it from top spool see if that helps but no keeps failing on print are snapping the filament.
Does not give me option to change to pla on computer settings as it errors I'm using abs filament.
Really don't want to buy abs filament as I'm worried it will not work
Thank you for your reply

1.0A is designed to work with ABS.  I'm not sure why you think PLA would work better.

Re: Davinci keeps breaking filament

Printer 1.0 A can pla print.
Reduce the nozzle temperature to 190 or 185°C.
PLA clogged the nozzle when it is too hot. I have tested long.

Re: Davinci keeps breaking filament

As far as I'm aware, the 1.0A can only print xyz's own PLA.
If you're using 3rd party PLA, you'll probably need to mod or replace the hotend to get it to work properly.

Re: Davinci keeps breaking filament

As Scobom said the 10A will and has been tested only for XYZ's PLA which melts at a lower temp then most third party stuff. Also if you have printed ABS in the past then you need to some how trick the machine into thinking ABS is loaded and run a meter or so of PLA through the nozzle at ABS temp.. What is happening if you have used ABS is that you still have ABS in the nozzle but printing at PLA temps which are not hot enough for ABS so that is blocking up the nozzle.

i don't know in your case. I've a resetter with four switches for length and temperature, but for 1.0 and Firmware 1.1J:

Since it's a 1.0A and you can reset the cartridge, you should be able to run your STL files in Slic3r, designating PLA hotend and bed temps, add the necessary header to the gcode, and convert it to Base64 (for 3w format) before opening the file in XYZWare. There are YouTube videos showing this if you need a reference.

The XYZ software will assume the 3w file is genuine, and your printer will do whatever the gcode tells it to.

You shouldn't need to mod anything to make this work.

That said, this printer *is* easy to mod if you're willing to learn and are mechanically inclined.
