Topic: Filament wiper

A large (fuzzy) pipe cleaner wrapped round a piece of coat hanger wire. Filament slides right through it.

The blue tube going through my cover lid is a piece of silicone aquarium air line. It keeps the filament from dragging against the edge of the through-hole and also from getting a kink in it when I lay the lid back.

Both little things seem to work well.

I have yet to see any reason for these, but then again I don't have a problem with particulates in my area..

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I run my printers in  a dusty environment and always loosely wrap a micro fiber cloth around the filament before it enters the print chamber to wipe it clean.

Nice idea!

Carl, aside from dust control with some setups the tension can help prevent the spool from unwinding/tangling.

Nice solution. I can see the need for these, especially for people printing in dusty environments, however, we never need to clean our filament before printing.

Winding filament can create a lot of static, so there may be dust in there from the factory as well.

I thought about grounding one end of the pipe cleaner to the cabinet but nah. PETG filament, my new fling, seems to resist static for some reason.

not needing a dusty environments.. only something other than a special 'white room' (like for Cpu/electronic)....  try to put a filament cleaner on one of your printer and look at it after using half of the roll (1Kg roll) ...and tell me that you find no dust ...

there is dust anywhere... even if you didn't see it...

a filament dust cleaner (a small bit of sponge around your filament or a small piece of fiber cloth) is ALWAYS a good thing to have...

I think this is one of those things that is commonly overlooked and most likely the cause of many clogged hot ends.
