Topic: extruder motor fan (pins) not working

I have an SD2 with the sanguino(lolu?) board.

My extruder motor fan pins stopped working.  Just prior I had unplugged things and plugged them back in whilst attaching a printed cable chain.  The fan does work when I attach it to a normal 12v adapter.  The printer works otherwise.

What's wrong and what to do?

SD2 Sanguinololu 1.3a atmega1284p, wood platform, lawsy's carriages, braided fishing line, pallet wood overhead spool mount, carboard/magnet enclosure, glass bed, E3D v6, bed levelling knobs, extended z-stop, 25A DC-DC SSR for bed heater, everything fixed to the SD2 frame, marlin firmware with some adjustments and extra failsafes enabled.  I'll never give up on you, little printer that could(n't)!

Easiest fix is to just connect up to 12v from the PSU.  Something probably burnt out when you unplugged it with power on.

Unplugging the fan with power on can hurt it?  I didn't know that :s

So I can just connect the leads straight to any +12v and ground on the board?  Can I do that with 2 fans?

No you connect the fan straight to the power supply... Yes you can do this with to fans. If you start trying to tap off 12 volt lines on the board you may blow something else out. Either add wires from the power supply output or make your fan connection where the power supply wires go into the board at.

They are equivalent in this case. Your PSU has only one output line. Plug the fan into your board's power input along with the original power supply cables. Don't forget that fans are polarity sensitive.
