Topic: filament loads to the box then starts backing up

looking for some help.  my son got the davinci pro for christmas.  printed half a cell phone case then it kept going but no filament was coming out.  since then we can't even get it to load completely . We have spent days and he is quickly running out of time out of school to enjoy it. the filament loads correctly and goes through the tube all the way to the box then starts backing up.  the tube had come out of the box and now we have it pushed into the hole but it is the same thing over and over.  any advice to us beginners is so welcome.
it appears to be happening between the extruder and where the tube enters the hole in the box.  (I'm sure there are names for these parts but we don't know them.)
thank you

Give us some details, filament type  and temperature.  When you say backing up do you mean it stops pushing filament or that it actually starts pulling the filament back out of the extruder?

Hi, had a similar issue, filament catches right at that black connector.  I finally decided to cut the filament off straight, instead of a point, and now the filament passes through easily.  Push the filament all the way through by hand buy holding the spring loaded feeder spring down and make sure that the filament passed the connector, then let go and start loading procedure.

ok thank you.  I'm using the abs that came with it.  i can push it by hand but it still once it goes past the black connector and into the box it keeps feeding but pushes the tub with the black connector out of the box. so you see the filament coming into the box and not going through to the extruder but the tube comes out and filament fills up inside the printer.  does that make sense?

That tube is supposed to be attached and unable to move away from the extruder.  What happens if you hold the tube where it's supposed to be and then try extruding, does filament Coke out of the nozzle?

ok we kind of jammed the tube up to the side and it is working now! thank you so much.  i didn't know if it was supposed to come out or not.  now we are trying to get it to stick....sigh.  the pla stuck fine using the glue stick but the abs doesn't seem to...

Aqua Net extreme hold hairspray and a bed temp of 90-105.  Higher is better up to a point.

Re: filament loads to the box then starts backing up

ABS needs good bed levelling in order to stick well. Try raising the bed slightly till there's barely any gap between nozzle and bed.
The bed levelling sticky on the first page of this sub forum describes how to level correctly.
