i know with both of my SDs (and both of my Folgertech kits as well), when I first connect to RH, the numbers for the various axis are red, meaning it isn't sure where "home" is. clicking on the Home icon (lower left house - the blank one) establishes where "home" is, and I am then able to move each axis where ever I want to.

My usual start up procedure is:
turn on computer and printer
start RH
Connect to the printer
Click home
start bed heating
