Topic: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Trying to finish up an E3D Lite installation. I get an error when I run cmd HID Bootloader, shown in the photo. Any idea what I did wrong?
Thanks for your help.

Did we verify that you do indeed have the Printerboard?

And you're sure you got the file properly pasted into the correct folder?

That's all you can do is repeat the process and figure out what you may have missed.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Progress?

I made the changes to the configuration.h file as instructed, i compiled fine, apparently.

Now I got the hid_bootloader_cli to run but after that it says:

"error reading intel hex file "Marlin.cpp.hex"

So, I got to looking, even did a global search around my PC, for the "Marlin.cpp.hex" and it does not exist.

I went back, went through all the steps again, double checking y work, redid the Configuration.h, clicked Save, the Verify/Compile. THen (according to Azerates instructions) I did it with the SHIFT key down, each time it seemed to compile just fine, gave the bit and byte message t the end, indication all is well, but still, no Marlin.CPP.HEX.

Halp!

The file is not named Marlin.cpp.hex. Got into your computer on the c drove and search for *.cpp.hex. You should fine one or more files that is just named a long string of number and letters.cpp.hex. The one with the most recent date will be the last one you compiled. You need to take that file and copy it to your working directory then rename it to Marlin.cpp.hex.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Carl is on the right track, the file created is assigned a name.  You need to allow viewing of hidden files.  I'm pretty sure that is stated in the instructions.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Does anyone with an SD3 and E3d Lite have that marlin.cpp.hex file you could email me? I don't find any *.cpp.hex file anywhere in my PC except the one that was created in 2013.

I'm trying not to get frustrated but I've been @#$%ing with this now for almost two weeks. I do have the Printrboard, I do have the latest Arduino, I've downloaded and done exactly what the instructions on the Wiki say and am almost there... but NO! I can't get the last @#$% inch...

See if these instructions are any better..

http://reprap.org/wiki/Printrboard

Unless these are what you are following, but I don't see the steps you listed there.. Make sure you are following the correct steps for your version and that you are using the correct process for the boot loader you chose to use. It should say the bootloader version on a label on the board. If there is no label then there is no bootloader and you will need to load a bootloader before you can load firmware.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Did I mention how much I dislike that board wink
Take a break for a couple of days and I will try and come up with a better (more user friendly) process.  In the meantime I will try and create a hex file for you.  Unfortunately it won't be tonight.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Just in case you were looking for a different set of instructions.
http://reprap.org/wiki/Printrboard#Inst … Bootloader
These won't help you find that file though.  Is it possible the file isn't being created?
Tomorrow when I get in front of my PC I'll take a minute to create a hex for you.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Would it be the same .hex file if I'm using the E3Dv6?  If so, I can e-mail you mine.  I think the SD3 and SD4 use the same file.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Knowack (Kevin?), the E3d and E3d Lite are just different enough although the SD4 is essentially an SD3 with a few more bells and whistles as I understand it.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Actually that file would be fine.  Only difference is max temp of 250 for Lite and 290 for V6.
It'll at least get him printing and buys me some time.  Been rather busy with the old day job wink

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

The http://reprap.org/wiki/Printrboard instructions helped but the big news is Arduino changed it's file extension from .CPP to .INO

Here's what I had to do to get it to load:

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

So it looks like the bootloader loaded. Now, I have disconnected/reconnected the USB printer cable, powered the printer down and up, started Repetier Host and tried to Connect to the printer and it says "come does not exist"

I have not used Windows 10 but usually a right click on the "Computer" Tab will bring you to properties then that screen has a device manger tab.

Re: Problem flashing Printrboard. Help please.

Windows can be a pain. Device Manager is different than Devices and Printers. It is under Control Panel-->Device Manager. Should look like this:
