Topic: E3d V6 Lite has never worked

Back in August I had purchased a V6 Lite extruder. I have never been able to get it to extrude without jamming. I works fine for a good 30 seconds before it jams up and starts grinding away at the filament. The filament also breaks when attempting to pull it out. Please help. I've run out of ideas short of buying a different hot end.

Either you have the temp too low or you don't have the PTFE tubing and seated all the way.  What type of filament are you using?

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Also - Did you update the firmware to use the correct thermistor table?

I have both the v6 and the lite 6 and have had zero problems with either one.

Re: E3d V6 Lite has never worked

You have something wrong!
I have an E3D V6 that I clogged (my error) at the time is was cheaper to buy an E3D Lite than to replace the parts I wanted to buy for the V6.  I installed the Lite 6 or 8 months ago and haven't touched it!  No clogs, no problems.  I change filament colors a few times a day, and I change filament types 2 or 3 times a week - again - No problems.
I also haven't touched the original SD firmware... I started on a Mac - and Mac & arduino don't see eye to eye - still working on that - but as said I an running factory firmware & the Lite with no problems.
Don't really know how the filament can 'break' on the way out - it's a simple ejection process - RH controlled.

At this point, I'm trying to print PLA at 215 degrees. I've already repurchased new PTFE tubing and have it as far in as I possible can get.

The filament breaks when I tried to pull it out. It gets caught inside the hole at the extruder.

I updated the firmware again today but nothing different.

I get a good 30-40 seconds of printing, followed by a jammed extruder.

I've lost ideas as to what to do at this point.

Re: E3d V6 Lite has never worked

Can I ask a simple question? Have you used an alternate thermometer to confirm that the reported temp is correct?

Note IR non-contact thermometers won't work. The source is too small to get an accurate reading.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Other than replacing the thermometer with the same model after accidentally breaking it while working on the nozzle, I have not. I'll have to try that when I get home from work.

Dont confuse thermistor which is what is in the hotend and under the bec that is what the printer meaures with for a thermometer which is what we use.

You need to get a digital cooking thermometer or a digital thermometer that can read at least 400c and it needs to be a contact type as in having a probe that must touch the surface being measured.

Re: E3d V6 Lite has never worked

I was having this problems when I first installed my lite 6 too. It was jamming because my ptfe wasn't in all the way and a little bit of plastic was leaking out at the end of the tube. What solved it for me was:

1: I pulled the ptfe tube out and heated my nozzle up to like 240 to melt all the filament out. Then I unfolded a paperclip and pushed and scraped around from the top to make sure no plastic was left in there at all.

2: When I re installed the ptfe tube I fed it in by hand as far as I could then I squished it against the filament gear and extruded about 2-3 mm. This jammed it in there a little bit more than I could by hand and made sure it was nice and tight. Then I used a razor blade to pull the black collet up while the pressure was on to make sure it didn't come loose again.

3: Finally I had to up my temperatures by a significant amount to get my filament to flow through freely. I was printing at 195C and now I'm currently printing around 230C.

Hope this helps you in some small way, I was getting frustrated too but the guys in this forum helped me out and now I'm quite pleased with the lite6.
