Topic: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

I'm having trouble with my temperature settings.
Under printer settings in repetier I set my default extruder temp to 205.
Under filament config in slicer I set my first layer and subsequent layers to 205.

When I start a print however my printer goes back to 195, which is what I used to use before. I cant think of any other places I might be able to chance the temperature and I don't know why it keeps going back to the old setting. the only way I can get around it is to pause the print and manually type in a new temp after it starts. What am I doing wrong?

Temps are also listed in your start code.  You can either remove them from the start code or change them to what you want.  They are not needed in the start code.

As far as I can recall I never changed the start code, specifically because I don't know how. How can I check the code to see if this is the problem?

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

I seem to have fixed the temperature problem however I don't know why but my filament is exploding out of the drive gear and making a spaghetti mess all over the place.

So far I have done:
-instal e3dv6 lite
-Pid tune at 230 for 5 cycles
-adjust steps per mm for hobgoblin
-adjust extrusion multiplier

The very odd thing is that this happens after the first layer almost every single time. If I pause the print, clear out the mess and then reload the filament, the print will finish just fine.

So your first layer is too close to the bed.  My first question is, where's the PTFE tube that's supposed to come from the top of the Lite6 and run all the way up to the drive gear.  If done properly the filament will have no path to exit and be forced into the hotend.

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

The e3d instructions I read said that running it up to the drive gear was a good idea but that I could also just cut it off at the black collet. So I cut it off at the collet.

My nozzle head is .13 mm away from the bed as measured with a feeler gauge, thats the setting I was using with the original solidoodle nozzle. Ill try adding a bit more space.

I just had an idea. Would anything bad happen if I replaced the ptfe tube with a brass or aluminum tube?

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

On the Lite6 you want to ensure that the tubing is seated down in there.  Then the general idea is to support the filament path to the drive gear as much as possible.  I can't comment on the brass tube idea.
It's also possible that your filament is full of moisture and creating back pressure as it turns to steam.  I've had that happen with a roll of red SD filament.

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

My installation kit came with a long tube so I have extended it to the drive gear. However now I'm noticing that when I extrude fast my drive gear skips or slips a few steps every 15 mm or so.

you need to raise the temp. Filament acts like a heat sink and sucks heat from the hotend. The faster you print the more heat it pulls away. This cause the temp to drop below melting point ever so often. So you need to print at higher temps the faster you go.

Higher speed = Higher Temps. Lower Speeds = Lower Temps. It's not just a rule, it's the law.

I'm at 215 right now, how much higher would you recommend? I'm printing in ABS.

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

I have run as much as 235 to 250 for ABS. In fact 215 is usually the upper end for PLA. What is the recommended temp on your ABS. Should have a label on the spool or box. On the average ABS is usually 230 to 250 and could even go as high as 260 to 275. Especially on your machine since you don't know your actual hotend temperature.

^Yep 235-250 is a good range but be careful with a Lite6 its only rated for 250

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

My ABS is ebay filament marked WYZ 3D with no temps or anything else on the label. It came vacuum sealed but thats it. I set my max temp at 245 in repetier so that I don't cook my ptfe tube and give myself cancer. Thanks for the help guys I think im back on track to where I was before I installed the lite 6.

Of topic, I ordered a sample of color fab bamboo filament, do you think I could run this thru a .35 nozzle or should I install something like .8?

Re: Repetier and slicer wont use the temp I set

I really like a .6 nozzle but bigger will be better in this case.
