Topic: Is it possible to use Cura or Simplify 3D with Repetier Firmware?
Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to use Cura or Simplify 3D on the Da Vinci 1.0a flashed with Repetier and if so can you tell me how?, thanks

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to use Cura or Simplify 3D on the Da Vinci 1.0a flashed with Repetier and if so can you tell me how?, thanks
Yes, the newest Simplyify3D version does support the Da vinci 1.0, 2.0 AiO, OEM firmware and also with Repetier.
I have it and it and works great.
oh okay, and how much better is Simplify 3D compared to Repetier Host?
I am still mulling a switch to Repetier.
@ Eder; Did you find that you had to do a ton of configuration to mesh with Simplify3D or did the default settings work ok?
S3D already has a preloaded profile/settings for the Da Vinci. I'm sure Repetier/Slicer has improved quite a bit, but S3D is in a class of its own when it comes to slicing speed/versatility/quality/etc.
I'm using S3D with Repetier on my Davinci 1.0 too, I highly recommend it! Print quality has been phenomenal, slicing speed is fantastic, and very flexible processing options.

Wouldn't you expect it to be superior considering it is half the price some of us paid for our printers versus the free open source options? I realize there is a lot of SD3 praising here but you are paying a good amount of money for it so you should get a superior product.
However considering they are free, both Rep and Cura Host do very good jobs once you get the printer dialed in. To be honest the S3d route is for those that want less tinker and less knowledge of how the printer works and more print. While with the Cura and Rep host route you will get a better understand of the firmware, internal settings, and the guts of the printer.
The support feature alone is worth the price of admission. Being able to manually add/remove support material where I want on the part is a huge plus. S3D also makes the support material extremely easy to remove, even in hard to reach places. You're right, if you like to tinker, stick with Cura and the likes. I started out 2 years ago with Slic3r/Rep Host, then moved on to Cura and Mattercontrol. I've been on S3D for over a year now and couldn't be happier. The $140 (maybe $150 now) has paid for itself many times over in term of time saved, sanity, wasted prints & materials.
In the beginning (6 months ago) I was happy with results from xyzware until I needed to print parts with overhangs/etc that needed supports. You don't have any options for tweaking supports in xyzware so I bit the bullet and paid the $150 for s3d. Excellent ability to customize supports and apply different processes at different heights. Plus, all the other tweaks/ability you read in posts... Very happy with s3d (though it still has a couple of bugs in the Mac version).
I am going to check out Craftware. It appears to be a clone of S3D including custom supports. It is free right now so who knows how it will work?
In Repetier Host there is a configure EEPROM setting option and I was wondering if S3D will use the same settings. Because I set the Z Home axis off by -0.100 mm because the extruder kept on scraping on the bed. So if I use S3D will it use the same settings that I saved on the EEPROM, and everything will be fine?, thanks
I, too, can't say enough about how much I love S3D.
I recently printed the melted Darth Vader mask from the episode seven teaser. It has a number of deep recesses and overhangs.
It was a real joy to push a button and see instant, proper support appear before my eyes.
EEPROM settings are always loaded at power up and will be used by the firmware. Any offsets you set in your host will be added or subtracted from the EEPROM values.
Hello all :-)
I'm trying to use S3D with a Davinci 1.0 flashed with Repetier and can't seem to make them communicate, this is what I'm getting at connection :
Attempting connection at \\.\COM3...
Testing plaintext communication protocol...
Testing binary communication protocol...
Testing alternate communication protocols...
Attempting RTS reset and trying again...
Connection failed.
Did I miss something??
Thanks for your feedback,
Bob
PS : in fact the printer doesn't show in the configuration wizard!?
You select other in the config wizard then enter the requested info. .
You then need to make sure the baud rate in the firmware is the same as the port speed in the SD3 also verify in windows device manager that the printer is on com 3.
thanks a lot Carl, that's what I did but it doesn't connect with S3D.
All settings are the same as in Repetier Host (com3, 250000 bauds)
What version do you have and what baud rate do you use?

in firmware baud rate is 230400!
I changed baudrate in S3D to 230400 and same thing happens :

Was the printer working with Repetier firmware installed on other software such as Repetier host?
yes Carl, the printer has been printing all day with Mattercontrol and Repetier...
It is communicating fine with both (just now) but not with S3D, I don't understand why :-(
I would try first rebooting the PC and then running nothing but SD3 first. Maybe something else has the com port. Unless you have done that already. Maybe someone else has seen this.
I no longer have a Repetier based system as you can see by my signature. I also use Marlin for firmware but there is not a port of it for Da Vinci
When I did have my Da Vinci with Repetier all I did was install SD3, pick other in the configuration manager, set the com port and speed to match the firmware and device manager and it connected right up.
well, that's what I did as well when I first started S3D, but no luck.
I will try to reboot and test again...
On a side note, I see you have a CTC Duplicator dual and am about to buy a Flashforge Creator... Are you happy with you CTC in terms of precision and speed?

Its the best printer out of 5 that i have owned.. Of course I did have to do some mods and it also is not running the stock controller anymore. But now I love it and will be hanging on to for some time...
not the right place here to discuss, but why did you change the controller, not happy with makerbot style controller?
This is the one, correct?

My CT'c is all metal.. It is a version that is now hard to find.. I changed the controller because the Mightyboard as it is called that all these clones use do not support standard gcode. The stl file has to be converted to a serial string file called a p3w or something. You also cannot send gcode commands directly to the printer for calibration, running pid and a host of other common functions. I just wanted more control and to be able to tweak things when needed. You don't even get access to the firmware. There is an EEPROM editor in ReplicatorG that allows very limited adjustments. You can set PID values but can't run and auto PID to see what those values should be.
arghhh! Would a Flashforge have the same Mightyboard?
What board did you buy for yours?
