ok, thanks for the explanations.

Regarding S3D and my Davinci 1.0 running Repetier FW I found out part of the problem : I'm running S3D on Parallels Desktop on a Mac (just like with Repetier and Mattercontrol) and it just won't communicate with the printer, no matter what.

If I run the OS X version of S3D it connects, no problem.

I will dig a bit more later, it's close to 4am here... Good night!

I mean don't get me wrong, it works. It just has limitations I could not live with...
You are also limited to only using ReplicatorG which is obsolete and no longer supported but still around and Makerbot Desktop for your interface and slicing software.. There is also Simplify3d that will interface directly as well but it will cost you 150 bucks as well.

The CTc is a direct copy of the Flashforge contrary to some thinking it is a makerbot copy. In fact although US made the Flashforge is actually a copy of the Makerbot. But yes they do have the same board. I went with an Azteeg X3 Pro from Panucatt Devices and Marlin firmware.

It is a version that is now hard to find.. I changed the controller because the Mightyboard as it is called that all these clones use do not support standard gcode. The stl file has to be converted to a serial string file called a p3w or something. You also cannot send gcode commands directly to the printer for calibration, running pid and a host of other common functions. I just wanted more control and to be able to tweak things when needed. You don't even get access to the firmware. There is an EEPROM editor in ReplicatorG that allows very limited adjustments. You can set PID values but can't run and auto PID to see what those values should be.

I would try first rebooting the PC and then running nothing but SD3 first. Maybe something else has the com port. Unless you have done that already. Maybe someone else has seen this.

I no longer have a Repetier based system as you can see by my signature. I also use Marlin for firmware but there is not a port of it for Da Vinci

When I did have my Da Vinci with Repetier all I did was install SD3, pick other in the configuration manager, set the com port and speed to match the firmware and device manager and it connected right up.
