Topic: Filament fur

I keep getting these hair thin strands of filament fur in my prints from the travel moves. Whats causing this and what can I do to fix it? I have retraction enabled.

Re: Filament fur

Too hot or retraction settings are too low.

^that or too slow retraction.  Try increasing both.

Re: Filament fur

By too low do you mean I don't retract far enough? I think its currently set to like 3mm, whats a good speed/distance? Where do I change the retraction speed? Should I just disable it altogether?

Retraction is almost as must. It is a setting in your slicer. Without knowing your slicer can't really tell you where to set it..

Then retraction settings are found in the printer tab... Just worry about the length an speed. Try going up by one each. You might also try lowering your temp 5 degrees.

Re: Filament fur

For the temperature I don't think I can go any lower. I was at 195 and I had to push it up to 198 just to get my filament to extrude without jamming.

Then work with the retraction till you find what cuts down on the strings. It is caused by filament oozing during moves. Retraction causes back pressure to pull that oozing back in during moves.

Re: Filament fur

Some filament is simply more susceptible to stringing.

Re: Filament fur

Are you using an e3d? Try 0.8mm @ 150mm/s retraction. make sure to change the maximum feedrate for E in the EEPROM settings. set it it sometning like 200.

Re: Filament fur

I bought an e3d lite but I haven't installed it yet. I was gonna print out all my replacement connectors for it and then I got distracted and started printing other things. Ill try those settings when I install it in a day or 2 thanks.
