Topic: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

Ever since I installed the Repetier Firmware on my davinci 2.0 duo, I have been unable to get it to make a nice clean print It's been weeks now! At this point I really regret going to this firmware and wish there was some way I could take it back to xyz's firmware and just run it how I had been (consistently really good prints that I was happy with).

I have literally tried to adjust every setting there is on the slic3r configuration and the printer configuration.

This is what it does when printing a 2 inch by 2 inch cube; it gets the bed to the proper height, then goes on to where it will start to lay down the skirt and for the first couple centimeters of the skirt, nothing comes out of the nozzle! after those few centimeters it starts to spew out the filament but very inconsistently (blob of filament(hair-thin strand)blob of filament(hair-thin strand)blob of filament. Then while finishing what is supposed to be the skirt, it continues on to make the outline of the cube except that it does the exact same thing. if I ignore all of this (and the fact that the skirt and the rim of the square are now partially moving around and embedding themselves in the first layer of infill), it continues on to add filament into the first layer in what seems like a much more consistent "flow". However, in the middle of this layer of infill (towards the middle of the cube), the printed material starts to bend up and make the next layer of infill do the same until i have a pocket developing within the first layer.

Before I used to just let all of this happen and see how it would build the perimeter walls but even those were riddled with holes where the filament briefly failed to come out of the nozzle. This happens at least one every layer.

I'm really lost when it comes to finding a solution for this. I thought today would be the day it would work well because I finally got around to drying out the filament in the over for hours since I though maybe moisture was my problem. I've tried playing with the extrusion multiplier but that didn't help, I tried changing my first layer height and still no difference, I have checked the calibration after each failed attempt and it's still fine. I keep the bed completely clean of glue before applying a new layer of it before a new print too. I have even cleaned the nozzles a dozen times thinking maybe they were just clogging but their both just as they should be.

Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction? This really sucks, I've wasted so much time and material trying to adjust settings and other things but nothing is helping me. I'll be posting up some pictures of failed attempts as soon as I get them on my computer in a few minutes.

I just want my printer to run at least how it was before I switched to repetier firmware..

Here is an example of that filament beding up to form a small pocket on the first layer of infill for the bottom of the cube.

Here is an example of it printing the outer perimeters and some infill inconsistently.

Raise your temp and slow down to about 35mm/s or less. You also have to calibrate your steps per mm on the extruder as well as calibrate your feed rate in your slicer.

I will raise my temp to 240 for the abs and slow the print down to 35mm/s and try it out. You just reminded me I hadn't done the extruder calibration on this particular extruder. I'll go head and dial that in like I did for the other one. But what do you mean by "feed rate in your slicer"? Are you referring to the feed rate slider on the manual operation tab within repetier host?

What you have to do is download one of the many single walled boxes out there on thingiverse. Set your slicer to print at one perimeter, no infill and print that box. With a .4 nozzle like you should have, the wall thickness once printed should be .48mm if your feed rate is set right. If it is more or less then that needs to be tuned. I am at work right now so I don't remember where the setting is. I believe it is in the extruder settings on the slicer configuration.

But makes sure the steps per mm are correct first.

That's actually what I have been trying to do but I cant even get the print to get as far as building the walls without them being riddled with holes or the print just completely messing up within the first layer. I set all my settings for the box to be just a single wall perimeter with no infill like you said.

Then your steps per mm on the extruder could be off...

I just checked it and it actually ate up exactly 100mm of filament from the reference point like it was supposed to. I'm running a new print test cube right now with the higher temp and the slower speeds and there's already a noticeable difference in how its printing a POSITIVE difference smile Hopefully this allows me to calibrate the extrusion thickness correctly without their being holes in the walls.

I may have spoken too soon, damnit. I still get that small bump in the first layer...i dont understand why that happens it's so odd.

Could your filament be old or been out long enough to absorb moisture?

Also you could slow down more just to get the print done.

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

I actually just had it in the oven today for 2 hours at 80C to get rid of the moisture (if there was any). I let it do a second and third layer over that first layer and the bump dissapeared..weird. But the walls have started printing and look a lot better than they had been. The only thing that I still notice are gaps in the layers only at the START and END points of that layer. It's almost like it's moving too fast before the extruder can push out filament at these points. but in between the start and endpoints the layers look great! Any suggestions on how I can take care of that problem?

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

If you have a way to measure high temps, confirm that the 240 you are setting is what you are getting. I have noticed as much as a 30 degree difference between reported and actual sometimes. So your temp could still be too low. You might need to run a PID calibration on your extruder and bed. There are several tutorials on doing that on Google. It's the same for all printers.

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

Here's the test print that just finished. ABS at 240C, bed at 90C, Extrusion Multiplier 100%, .3mm layer height. I read on a tutorial somewhere that at .3mm layer height it should be at .43mm extrusion width at .3mm layer height. Is this okay?

I will try this and see what temp my extruders are putting out. I have an infrared temp gun so hopefully that will do the trick.

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

Looks good to me, so that just leaves confirming your temp. You may need to go higher even as I have had ABS that needed as much as 255 to print well. You will find this is a process for every roll but once the steps per mm and feed rate are dialed in on one roll they usually don't need to be changed. It's just finding that right temp for each roll at the speed you wish to run.

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

Gotcha, I'll keep that in mind for sure! I'm running the autorun PID calibration but it seems to start and then timeout. Is it supposed to take a long time to finish or something?

Re: I CANNOT GET MY 2.0 DUO PRINTER TO PRINT SUCCESSFULLY after REPETIER

I never got the pid to run on my aio either it just timed out. after trying it several times I just gave up on that.
