Topic: Odd issue...

For me anyway. I'm sure someone here will know
These 2 items were printed using the same settings... I also usually have a bed shift near the beginning of a print then all seems to go fine.

These are both abs. Both from the same enclosed machine.   The cube is hollow. The printer part is 70% infill.  No differences in slicer.  The bottoms both have a large shift.  Cube has a second larger shift at the top.

Re: Odd issue...

Looks like some serious over extrusion. Have you calibrated your e-steps on your extruder? Then calibrated your flow rate in your slicer?

Could also be movement of the glass or other mechanical parts in that axis.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I'm with Carl, looks like over extrusion.

Re: Odd issue...

i dont think it is over extrusion, walls are at .41  100mm is 100 mm, set to the .4 nozzle  the cube looks almost perfect, while the printer part looks like a ton of shifting layers.  glass is not moving.  im just wondering why the cube layers look to be pretty good and the printer part is all over,

i pid tuned the bed and the e3d.  seems like the Y axis shifts a bit, x seems to be okay, i did add the bed stabilizer, the bed i can move the bed slightly because of the leveling, should those screws be almost all the way tight?  bed is sitting almost about 10mm above the arm.

if it was over extrusion wouldnt it over extrude on all sides?

Re: Odd issue...

.4 nozzle should calibrate to .48 wall thickness.  What layer height are you using?
Is there a chance your Z axis isn't moving smoothly?

Re: Odd issue...

.3 layer height, if i manually move Z it seems to move very smoothly, it is almost like the bed is shifting or the nozzle is shiting on the Y plane(back to front)  hope the new pictures shed more light on this.  i thought it may have been z wobble, but the 2 sides seem unaffected.

printing a single wall cylinder right now, to double check.

Sounds unsanitary! big_smile
I think the mount for your hotend is loose. You may need something more sturdy like this .

Re: Odd issue...

cylinder proved an Odd print,  the walls are .47...  the 2 "sides" facing the front and rear of the printer were oddly layered, the other 2 sides were aligned properly.

Re: Odd issue...

now that Azerate, might be the whole thing... i bought the mk5 from filastruder, it did not have a lock to hold it, which may account for the rocking....

Re: Odd issue...

Check your Y drive pulley. Make sure the grub screw is tight. You have some sort of play or motion in your Y axis which is the front to back axis.

Re: Odd issue...

The MK6 Filastruder sells is a great design, but it is intended as a temporary fix until someone figured out a more permanent solution. I had the same "open-faced" mount for about 6 months without issues. If you have too much wiggle, use some tape around the groove on the E3D to get yourself stable long enough to print the extruder I linked.

Filament guide and tension arm will be the same.

that is the same part that is pictured i shaved it down and am going to attempt to use it big_smile

Re: Odd issue...

as already mentioned, any movement in the print head, or hotend itself can be the cause of your issue.
Make sure the X carriage is snug on the smooth rods (the teflon block on the back rod was loose on our sd4 when we got it) and if you haven't replaced the Y idler blocks, I would do those sooner rather than later as well. one of ours had a crack that was causing a similar issue with odd shifting in the Y axis...
