Topic: Acrylic extruder parts

After several unsuccessful attempts to unblock the extruder on my solidoodle 2 I decided to take the extruded head apart for easier access. When I undid the screws I found some of the clear acrylic pieces cracked and broken. It is now proving difficult to put the thing back together.

My question is where I can I find the files to make these parts. I have access to a laser cutter so if I had the files could make them. Alternatively where can I buy them. Couldn't see them on the solid oodles website.

I am in the UK

Thanks

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

Find someone to print you an MK-5 or order one from filastruder.com for $5  then throw that acrylic junk in the garbage.
There's a reason we keep insisting users make the MK-5 one of the first things they print.  Spare parts are nice to have when you need them.

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

While you're there (filastruder) you might just as well order an E3d and stop fighting the clogs.

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

Wow! Thanks for the fast reply. I have just been on there website and will order an E3d. I have the solidoodle 2 gen, do I need the 12v or 24v. Sorry for the question but I'm not sure.

thanks

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

SD2,3&4 were all 12v.
The MK5 you get from there is designed to fit the V-6 and are only a temporary.  They are designed to get you printing again so you can print a higher quality one.  When you get to that point let me know and I'll link the file.  Alternately you may find one you like better on thingiverse.  Just ensure it is for the V6 and not the V5 as they are different.
In the mean time study up on the firmware change the instructions are in the WIKI.  If you don't know what board you have let me know and I can help you sort it out.

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

Thanks again. I will order a 12v ed3 now. I do have access to a 3d printer at work so could print the MK5 straight away. Could you send me the link.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

Wardjr, thank you for uploading the files for the mk5.

A few questions:

1. Does the piece of plywood in the original extruder get integrated into the mk5? If so how?

2. Is a piece of steel or aluminum used to attach the hot end firmly to the body of the mk5?

3. What are the 2 holes hanging off of the bottom of the mk5 body used for? Mounting a cooling fan?

Thanks.

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

1.) no
2.) no, it is not needed
3.) endstop triggers

1) Nope! Save it for building a fire wink
2) If properly printed, no.
3) The two holes on the sides? On the right side, screw in an M3 screw. This is for your endstop. If you do not add this screw, it will slam, give a horrid banging sound, and give you quite a scare.

Re: Acrylic extruder parts

I'm not sure about e3d's tolerances or my printer's tolerances on the matter, but I have one heatsink that fits the mk5 very well and another that wobbles. I put one wrap of electrical tape around the groove of the heatsink and it fit well.
