Topic: Print

Hello,
Whenever I want to print a ledge or like a head wider than a neck the printer does not print well at all.  Is there any way I can change the printer so it is smooth instead of messy??

For overhangs as they are called you have to set your slicer to generate supports. You then break those supports away after the print is done and cools fully.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

it won't work for the solidoodle press...

If the slicer the press uses will not allow you to generate supports then you are limited to printing items that have a limited overhang or you will need to design the item with supports as part of the design then trim or break them away once printed. That may just be a limitation to that printer and one reason for it's lower price.

Re: Print

This is an honest question, does the slicer that comes with the Press not have a "generate support" option?  I find this incredibly hard to believe as this is the first I've heard of this.

I find it hard to believe as well but I can only respond to the answers given and the guy makes it seem like supports are not an option with a press.

The press does have slicer.  The supports don't build...  They aren't made  I made sure the are enabled in slic3r.  Generate support material is checked.  Overhang threshold is 70.  It is set as pillars pattern spacing 1 interface layers 3.

Set the threshold lower. It is too high for the amount of overhang you have. The threshold is the number of degrees an overhang has to be before it will be considered needing supports. You can also set it to zero and slicer will auto detect where it thinks they need to be.

Re: Print

As was said a setting of zero will let the software decide. If that is too much then just up it. That for the most part is s 45 from vertical so anything that is 45 or less should be fine.

You tried less than 45 or zero? Also to confirm what slicer are you using? Is it Slic3r or another?

Re: Print

I have tried all the angles for the exact same print.  NO supports are made.  ALL the prints come out the exact same.  I ALWAYS have to stop the print.  These Supports are NOT made.  i have tried 0 degrees 10, 20, 45, 60, 70, 90.  NONE WORK

Re: Print

Are you saving then selecting that profile before you slice? Do you have generate supports box checked?
FYI 1.1.7 is by far my least favorite version, too many bugs.
