they are both controller boards, yes, and do have some similarities, but they are a fair bit different in layouts...

Ramps will not run on smoothie. Most common firmware for Ramps is Marlin or Repetier.

The only boards that will run on Smoothie firmware are these.

     Xpresso Smoothie
    mbed NXP LPC1768
    SmoothieBoard
    Smoothie On A Breadboard
    R2C2 RepRap Electronics
    Azteeg X5 mini
    AZSMZ Mini
