well mine just arrived, and i has a broken x-axis motor mount (it did look as though the box had been dropped, but the print for that slide and mount was not the best. i glued the break and used a hose clamp to reinforce the mount) and after a few prints i had y stepping issues and then the x-axis stepper driver started playing up, it seems to have lost its sense of direction, i tell it to move right and it move left or right or both and sounds HORRIBLE, so i swapped the x and y drivers and the fault followed the driver board. so its very likely the driver board..

i have sent 3 emails (one as each fault occurred lol) and had zero response (although its only been 24 hours)

Boopidoo wrote:

It would be good if the information/documentation about SD3 got updated. Also that clear distinctions were made in existing information between SD2 and SD3. Right now it's quite confusing. It's written that Repetier must be used on SD3, however in the help documentations/tutorials references are referencing pronterface.

Howdy, I have the same suggestion, and hence have where potentially conflicting information has been presented tried to call it out in the thread. This is one reason I made some comments explicitly in the recent 'how big is the build platform' when they really were talking about the build bed/plate (not the platform) and also clarified for others that the 150x150 dimensions referenced were for the SD2 and not the SD3.

In practice, you need to keep in mind one thing with the SD3 : Its bed size is 200x200 and uses 209x200x200 as the build metrics (the extra 9 is the 'dump area' to the side of the bed).

Everything else - is the same basically. If you wanted to get picky about it, the other minor mod is that the cable loom on the SD3 runs through the center hole that on the SD2 was used for filament feeding (which didn't work so great anyway, and most went back over the top of the case anyway - so no great lose).

Re software, You really would only want to use repetier-host as its much easier to use really, pronterface was the only kid on the block at the time back in the initial SD2 days. You can however slice the model and save the gcode out of any slicer (skeinforge, but why?, kisslicer, etc) and then load it back into repetier-host.

So basically - all the info applies for the most part, except for tiny nuances like the SD3's bigger build area.

Hope that helps..
