Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Couple of pics of longer prints with the Woodfill.
The box took 1.5 hours for the lid and 2.5 hours for the main compartment part.

And this owl took 2 hours.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

could you post some pictures of your mod'd extruder , im just getting into using alternatives to ABS and have been eyeing up woodfill for some time now.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Scobo did you add the heatsink to the back or was that there already?  If so do you know what size it is.  Want to do a setup like that.  Found the small heatsink on ebay.

Curious also what woodfill filament you are using?  I would like to try that.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Do you mean the one with the 2 screws attaching it to extruder housing ?
If so, that's the stock heatsink. The ones I added are the 4 smaller ones either side of the extruder barrel.
The woodfill is made by Colorfabb .... http://colorfabb.com/woodfill-fine
They also make other exotic filaments such as Bronzefill, Copperfill, Glowfill and XT Co-poly which all work with this mod.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

I was wondering with the thermal compound on the one with the two screws if you had put that on.  Saw the thermal compound.  Are the ones you mounted just sitting on the inside in thermal compound without any mounting?  Thanks for the information!

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Ah, yes I see where you're coming from now.
I removed the stock heatsink (the one with the screws) and put some thermal paste on the back before replacing it to improve cooling.
And the small ones are just held in place with paste.
I also relocated the fan to improve the cooling of the heatsinks.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

This mod also works with Timberfill and I just tried some PET for the first time today which also works.
I've updated my signature to show all the types of filament I've managed to print so far with the heatsink mod.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

None of the metal filaments will work with davinci stock extruders. They cause damage to the hotend after 500g of filament. Brass hotends can't be used with the metal filaments.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

You could be right there, I've only tried a 10 metre sample of Bronzefill so far although my nozzle is still fine and it did manage to print quite well with it.
I believe the carbon composite filaments are also pretty hard wearing on brass nozzles.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Yea Proto pasta found that after 500g of its metal filaments causes significant damage to a brass hotend

HELLO scobo !

you remove the Extrude Heatsink Cooling Shroud?
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:623274/#comments
you place 2 heatsink ?
it works well with the PLA and ABS?

Please more pictures to better understand your thing

thank you

I didn't bother with a cooling shroud, I didn't find I needed one.
If you look closely at the picture below, you'll see 4 small heatsinks. One of them is sitting vertically as there wasn't room to fit it horizontally.
I don't think it matters how many you use, just as long as you cover as much of the metal block either side of the barrel as possible.
Yes, it works very well with PLA and ABS plus all the other types of filament listed in my signature.

I removed the self adhesive pads and used thermal paste instead. The pads were rubbish.

Re: Bronzefill or Woodfill with the Davinci ?

Do you mean the fan at the back of the extruder ?
If so, all I did was remove the metal bracket and put it back on so it sits just above the stock heatsink and blows accross the the top of the stock heatsink and the smaller heatsinks.

hi !

the bed of the setting is not the same for the PLA? you have the same problem?

I have a bed for adjustment of ABS and another for the PLA?

how many degrees you use PLA for extruder? and the bed?
thank you

I turn my heat bed off for PLA, or keep it set at 30c if you can't turn it off.  And for PLA, I use hatchbox and keep the first layer set at 210c and the rest of the layers at 185c, works fine for me and gives me sharp corners!
