Topic: new extruder is touching the aluminum bed, where to adjust in Repetier

i just got a replacement extruder from SD and installed and heating works fine except the new part is about 1 mm longer then the old one. i ran my first job and it smacked into the heating bed. what setting do i need to adjust so my prints start at the right height.

using slic3r i assume its the printer settings Z offset ? I am still a newb at this. any help would be appreciated.

You need to adjust your z limit switch screw which is located on the back wall of the inside cabinet.  Turn it clockwise to lower it a bunch then back up to where you need to be without hitting.

What should the distance need to be set at between extruder head and bed?  I have not leveled my bed yet, only had it a week. So I was wondering should I set the Z limit 1st then level the bed or the other way around.

The distance isn't as important as what the first layers look like on your setup.  You want the first layer to smoosh a little so it will stick to the bed, but not so much that it wipes.  Ian has a nice post on it on his blog here and if you look on solidoodle's vimeo page you'll see how they level the bed and set the first layer.  Don't remember if it's in the same video or more than one as vimeo is blocked on the work network.

The short answer is both are critically important, I would do the z limit first so you don't crash into your bed, but you may have to do it twice once before you level and once after.

got it fixed, thanks ! also made time to adjust my X and Y so i can get better circles. its amazing how much it was out of alignment.

I wish we had a repository for all of these links and videos in one spot.
