ok think I found all the software maybe. but no STL files yet huh?

oh and its cloud based still? thought it was stand alone use? cloud is insecure for retaining privacy on scans plus if cloud goes poof so do files

It's completely stand-alone.  All of the software runs right on the raspberry pi.  There is no cloud component.  The web browser is used to communicate directly with the raspberry pi (similar to how you connect to a home media server or administrate a wifi access point).
I will post the electronic design files tomorrow, along with basic instructions.  The STL files will be soon to follow.  Do you guys think thingiverse is the best place for them?

yeah thingaverse and post links to softwares and instructions plus how to order kit. it will be awsome wathing makerbot see all the orders for a better mouse trap come off their own group page LOL

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: Printable Turntable Laser Scanner

who me? yeah said so long ago. Im down for a kit. who wouldnt be, its way better than the makerbot scanner plus dont require windows 7 or newer (which even makerbot techs dont know as its stated on their site). and at a fraction of the cost

Re: Printable Turntable Laser Scanner

I've dabbled some with the hand held line laser and the free version of David software.  That just aint gettin' it!  Most everything else is both too expensive and essentially still experimental.

I keep telling folks, 3d printing is where it's at, and it is still in its infancy - now is the time to jump on board.  Without a scanner, all you can do is print other peoples' ideas.....

Again - I'm interested...

Re: Printable Turntable Laser Scanner

Hey guys, I've uploaded some figures showing the design of the mainboard and how it connects to the Raspberry Pi.  What's not shown is the splitting of the 12V from the barrel plug to feed into the A4988 (top left of the perfboard diagram) and the LM2596 to step down the 12V to 5V (top right of the perfboard diagram).  The little blue square things on the perfboard diagram are screw terminals where the lasers, motor, and power are connected.  The big blue things at the top are variable resistors.  I've also included a figure showing the initial PCB layout (and the previous photo of the fully assembled mainboard).

I've decided that there's enough interest to warrant a small Kickstarter or Indiegogo project where you would get easy to assembly kits (no need to solder components or purchase things like resistors, transistors, regulators, and such).  You would require you to print the plastic parts but the full kit should only require a screwdriver for assembly.  If you guys are still interested in building it from *scratch* let me know, and I'll help you with that (I still have 9 or so PCB's that can be utilized).  Otherwise, I should have a campaign going in a little bit.  I will still be uploading the printable files to thingiverse but the design could change (be improved) some between now and the end of the campaign.

Let me know what you think!

Re: Printable Turntable Laser Scanner

Can you do a scan on something with sharp edges/corners? Like a big bolt n nut maybe. Would like to see how it handles it.

SD2 - Glass Bed, Fans on PCB and Y motor, Custom enclosure
Slicer - Simplify3D

Sure.  I think I have a couple of large bolts and nuts left over from a deck I built.

The bolt has a round head so I stuck it in some clay.

Very impressive. Doubt makerbot's scanner can do this good. Thanks for taking the time to do this scan. Guess I have yet another project I need to look into.

I underestimated how long it would take to get Amazon payments approval and Kickstarter project approval.  The project won't be ready by Thursday.
