Topic: Nylon pellets for filastruder

It is possible to use nylon pellets or powder to make the filament?

I need the material to be flexible. An example would be the taulman Nylon 618 Filament or the Nylon 645 filament which can be found in the taulman3d website and also on youtube.

Which type of nylon powder is needed to make this filament?

Yes, it is possible. Did you read the sticky in this forum?

Thanks for directing me to that post. However, the link to the nylon material is broken. I'm at this section:

"Nylon
To my knowledge, the only nylon that has been run through a Filastruder is this. "

Yup, ran out of stock. Had 1400lbs, all gone.

Wow, what madness is that! Any updates for restock or recommendations to direct suppliers? I'm willing to buy 100lbs lol.

Just to be sure, the 3d printed product is flexible right?

Re: Nylon pellets for filastruder

It is the exact same as Shapeways' "strong and flexible".

Re: Nylon pellets for filastruder

In SLS the powder that was closest to the object in a build gets heated up enough to change it's melt flow characteristics, so it can't be reused and has to be discarded.  That's what Shapeways sent Tim, and even though it isn't good enough for SLS it's fine for extrusion. You could look up rapid prototyping services in your area that use SLS and ask if they would be willing to give their leftover powder to you rather than throwing it out.  It's an odd request and not something the front desk can help you with, so it might be tough to get anyone to call you back.

Thx  IanJohnson. You just gave me an idea where to get the powder locally.
