I also switched to a glass plate (2mm framing glass), but couldn't use these thumbscrews. because I use Lawsy's end gcode (which lowers the bed to the bottom when done printing) ... Then I made functional, yet ugly thumb screws that fit on the bottom M4 nut.

Any chance of getting the STL for these? I personally like them better than the other thumbscrew

I just grabbed these today from another thread but I can't find it.  Look through active topics from today you should find them.

A lot of people without fans are struggling to print the thumbscrew so here is an uglier but easy to print version.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

I gave up on printing any of the other thumbscrews and designed my own.  They are super easy to print (zero overhang) and also provide a very good gripping surface!  I provide both the STL and the SKP (SketchUp) files, in case you want to modify something.

Thank you for the provided stl! Just printed them, very easy to print and very nice simple design. Here is how it looks in place.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Just added the glass build plate topper and joosh thumb screws. In replacing my z offset screw (to be longer to accommodate the glass) I was finally fed up with how inaccessible the z screw is.

The replacement screw was more than long enough to handle the extra few mm of glass, so I threaded a wingnut all the way down and superglued it to the screw. It is just barely too wide and brushes  the back wall, but is still a lot easier than trying to get an allen wrench back there. Hooray!

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Here is my solution to the bed leveling and offset adjustment :-) Somewhat simpler that some other designs, the main improvement might be that you don't need to glue anything.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Yeah, drilling a hole in the case is essential.  I'm surprised that Solidoodle did not figure that out from day one.

36

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

I recieved a hex driver with my SD2 that had a ball on the end. It works on angles that removed the hole requirment.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Lucky you!

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

I just turn mine with my fingers, just have to lower the bed to gain access.

What size nuts are needed?

It is designed for M4 nuts.

Btw, the STL is upside down, so you have to rotate it before printing.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

I am changing my thumbscrews out for the ones that dont take away any additional printing height and I found this removable thread locker for plastic.

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Looking at my stock SD3 I see cylindrical nuts (?) at the bottom of the bed. Is the idea to somehow screw them off and thread the plastic thumbscrews on in their place?

44

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

Did you get one of the new aluminum beds or is it wood?

45

Re: Thumbscrew to level bed from beneath

I bought 3 wing nuts and put them on with a dab of crazy glue, simple, effective and if I need to get them off I'd use an Allen wrench on top and a crescent wrench on the wing nut.

It's aluminium.
I was expecting to see some hex nuts at the bottom but found cylinders instead.
