Topic: Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 new firmware broke Unload

Hi all, long time reader, (so many issues solved, thanks!) first time poster. I use the Da Vinci Jr 1.0.

I stupidly accepted the latest firmware update that was pushed and printed a nice piece today just fine. My filament was left with about 2%, so - time to replace, when I went to Utilities-Unload, it doesn't heat the extruder and just starts to try to unload the filament, which results in an awful knocking+grinding sound.

Is there any way to revert the firmware, or fix the problem? Or am I SOL and have to wait for XYZ?

Also, I've always been curious about flashing my printer to use 3D party or just to reset the NFC tags, would now be a good time to attempt that?

Sorry for all the junk, between the extruder clogs, the auto-level bugging, and other issues I am so fed up with XYZ, and I want to keep using my machine. On the other hand, I think I am good enough now; it might be time for an upgrade to another brand with a larger print capability.

thanks in advance,
J

i cant comment on the firmware update but i can say the best thing i ever did was read this thread
http://www.soliforum.com/topic/17124/an … ank-ntags/

got some paper tags and generated with that app. can now use any filament and use it right down to 0 left.
you do have to print a few mods for it, filament holder for outside the printer / tag holder for the spool holder inside the printer and drill a small hole for some tubing for the filament to pass from the outside through the side of the printer and up to the feeder.
i also havent had much problem with extruder clogs tbh, auto level seems ok not brilliant but it works. bad things i have found is the banging if the filament gets stuck in the feeder from time to time that seems to be the only time i get a bad print from mine.

anyways after saying all that im unsure if paper tags will work on newer firmware also someone may want to confirm but if you can get it rolled back then here is links to some of the mods i used

you need to print the holder at an angle, if i remember right its roughly z axis 285 to fit it
