Topic: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Thanks to all the information floating around this forum, we are able to reset and create new valid ntag-labels for use in our dongled printers using various ways.
However, I personally felt a little uncomfortable using the famous nfc tools app to manipulate the tags. So I created a little android app that helped me with the process. I noticed some people have trouble going through the steps (which become pretty error-prone when it comes to creating valid tags from blanks), I decided to share it here, hope it helps some people out.
Yes, its not looking nice (not the android/ui guy) but it did the job for me so far, especially for creating new tags.

What's needed?
- An NFC-enabled android phone/tablet with at least Android 4.4 (I guess)
- Cheap blank nfc213 paper tags if you want create new tags.

No soldering or other tinkering required. Start the app, place it on a blank, choose temp/length, push the button, tape the tag to the printers' nfc reader, happy printing.

Here is one of many tutorials out there that guide you through the steps of installing an apk to your phone:
https://www.maketecheasier.com/install- … he-market/

The apps source is also attached (AGPL licensed), so feel free to use and abuse it. Maybe someone can create a fork which is more feature rich and  better looking, I'm lacking time atm.

I'd like to thank all the users sharing information here, especially nilezon for reverse engineering the pass/pack code, which is also used in this app (in a very ugly way :-/).

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

I have not try it yet, but I think it is great idea and great design. I actually like the UI, simple but powerful. 1000 times better than the nfc tools. Only thing I think can be improved is the choice of temperature and color.

It may also helpful include some instruction to change Android setting to allow installation of unknown source .apk file.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

I do agree with temperature choices as there are three different temperatures for the printer. Just add a 200° to your selections. The colors do not make a difference as you match the color to the temperature not the other way around. Actually most filament comes with a prefered temperature on it.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

I'm a bit confused about which colors lead to which nozzle temperature, these two posts state different temps for several colors, so which one is correct (as per latest firmware)? May these temps differ per printer model?

Edit: New version online, using color codes 40/45/50 for 190/200/210 deg, which worked with my minimaker. Since the temperature readings are not that precise, I dont know for sure :-/

I would go with

because they are information for minMaker and more updated based on the time.

Great work madman907!! Thank you so much.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

I was going to create my first paper tag with RFID NFC Tools today, but this was MUCH easier. (the app DID force close, but the tag was written properly)

Thanks for creating this!

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Hi,

thanks for your work, but this won't work on DaVinci Mini W? Or have i the wrong paper tags?

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

I think you need to use nfc213 tags like these ones: https://www.amazon.de/Tags-Sticker-NTAG … ds=ntag213

Sunset is correct. The tags have to meet the NFC213 spec. No other tag will work. So your NTAG216 specs will not work.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Thanks for the quick anwsers, i order now and test.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Sunsetraving is right. You need to use ntag213 nfc tags. I use the same as sunsetraving suggested (see amazon link) . I guess i will have to implement a check for the nfc type.

I used the paper tags too, but found another better solution with this NTAG213 Slim EMULATOR

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Nice work, but a bit too pricey, for me... I can order lots of paper tags for 65 bucks.

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Madman, yo da man! This worked great and was easier than any other method I tried. Nilezon's hard work made this possible, so thanks to you as well. Use cheap paper tags, simple android app, two clicks and you have a tag that works!  Is there any down side to this method?

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Hello,

I got my new tags today. But while printing, he tells me it's not an original. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Strange, just guessing: did you tape the tag to the spool holder? It has to stay there all the time...

22

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

hello evrybody
j try to write the tag NTAG213 with android phone (reeltool21) but the tag remail blank
j try with other phone the same result my printer has 2.3.5 firmware
and the information says me indefinily

23

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

Could both of you try to write a 200m spool-tag? Does this make a difference?

24

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

J think that the 2.3.5 firmware is impossibile to reset the tag

Re: Android App for resetting/writing blank ntags

For minimakers: dont reset tags, just create new tags and never change them ever after.
